Big-ten-basketball
There was just one game on Monday and it wasn't pretty, which is pretty much what we all expected to happen as Indiana crushed the Nittany Lions, 74-51, in PSU's Big Ten home opener. One could argue that the Bryce Jordan Center has become a bit of a home away from home for the Hoosiers as of late and especially so for one Jordan Hulls.  What We Learned: We learned that the Hoosiers are who we thought they were after a scare at the Hawkeyes to open Big Ten play. They had four players go for double digits and closed this game out before it really began, running away with it at the half, up 44-27.  If you're Penn State you really have to be worried that the Nittany Lions offense has managed just 51 points in each of it's first two games. It's one thing to do it on the road at Wisconsin - lord knows plenty of teams have gone into the Kohl Center and looked downright stupid before, but it's another to do it at home. Even worse was the fact that D.J. Newbill had a horrid night, going just 3-15 and scoring just 8 points. There's no way, no how for the Nittany Lions to win if Newbill isn't scoring in double figures.  Star of the Game: Christian Watford - 16 points, 8 rebounds, 5-8 FG's, 3-5 3pt FG's What Watford did is the exact reason this could be the best team in the Big Ten and I'm including Michigan in that discussion. If you stop Zeller fine, we'll just have Watford go off. If you stop Watford we'll just have Hulls go off. If you stop Hulls... well, you get the point.  Stat of the Game: 18 - That is the difference in FG attempts in favor of Penn State. PSU put up plenty of shots and if the could've hit, oh say about 10 or 11 more and gotten anywhere close to 50% this team would've won the basketball game. Instead the Nittany Lions shot 31.7% from the field and allowed Indiana to shoot 22-42 for 52.4% for the night. I love me some tempo free stats, but you don't need that kind of basketball rocket science to know if you are taking 18 more shots than your opponent and still losing you've got some major issues.
