PLAYERS: Jabari Parker
TEAMS:
The most talked about freshman is Andrew Wiggins.  He has been said to be the best player in his class, and is expected to be the number one pick in the 2014 draft.  He has already said he is going to leave Kansas after this season.  He is a great talent, and will be one of the best prospects in this coming up NBA draft.  He has gotten all the coverage as the college basketball season is just under way, but he is not the best college freshman.  The best college freshman this season will be Jabari Parker. The Duke Blue Devils have the best freshman in college basketball.  He probably was overhyped as a freshman in high school, declared the best high school player since Lebron James by Sports Illustrated.  This has hurt him coming into this season because everyone expected him to be great.  Wiggins stole the show recently with his athleticism.  He has amazing upside to his game, and will be a great college freshman this season for Kansas. Parker will show how much improved he is this season.  He lost a number of games in his senior year in high school, and that didn’t help him coming into this season.  He never really reached his potential, but he has improved his game since that article was written.  This season his full arsenal will be on display in Durham.  Parker has what you might call an all around game.  He has a great basketball IQ, and can do everything on the court.  He is not as flashy as Wiggins, but he impacts the game on every play.  He is going to show how valuable he is this season, and be the best freshman in basketball. Wiggins has been interviewed on ESPN and has had Sports Illustrated articles written about him like Parker did four years ago.  Wiggins has gotten all the attention as the best incoming freshman in his class.  He has the athleticism that makes people love to watch basketball, and a high ceiling to his game.  However, this season he won’t be the best player it will be Parker. Parker will be the best freshman this year because the team will play through him on the offensive side of the court.  He will also show that he is the best through the stat sheet, and how he makes his teammates better.   Wiggins has been put in the same breath as Wilt Chamberlain and Danny Manning.  He will be a great freshman, but will come up short of those great players. Both players will be great in the college game and NBA.  It will be a great rivalry for years to come, and it will get started early with Kansas playing Duke today.  This will be their first matchup at the college level, and it will show what player can impact the game more.

Freshmen Jabari Parker Stars, but Duke Falls

Jabari Parker scored 27 points with 19 coming in the first half alone, however, it wasn’t enough to avoid early season loss to the 5th ranked Kansas Jayhawks 94-83 . Both...

Can BYU Basketball be Elite Without Elite Recruits?

Last week, the Cougar basketball program lost another LDS recruit to a big-name program. 6′ 9″ forward from Arizona, Payton Daystrup, said that the Ohio State University “just clicked” with him and chose the Buckeyes over his other finalists, Virginia, Florida, and BYU. For Cougar fans, the announcement was another punch in the gut that reminded them of LDS standout from...
