Juan Fernandez scored 23 points, including the 1,000th of his career, as Temple’s men’s basketball team picked up a much-needed win at Rice, 77-70, on Monday night.
The milestone and victory came one game after another senior guard, Ramone Moore, scored his 1,000th point – but that occurred in a 77-65 loss to Texas in which Temple held a second-half lead.

Two Big Five teams took to the court on the road on Monday night, though the games only went similarly in the first halves. Both Temple and La Salle raced out to double-digit leads at Rice and Delaware, respectively, with both schools holding onto single-digit leads after the first 20 minutes.
