The Michigan Wolverines already held a 62-38 lead over VCU in the second half Saturday when Tim Hardaway Jr., Nik Stauskas and Spike Albrecht set off on a 3-on-0 break. Stauskas corralled a pass from Trey Burke, then dumped a bounce pass off to Hardaway. The Wolverines’ high-flying junior did the rest: Hardaway was one of four Wolverines starters to finish in double figures during a 78-53 win, which sent Michigan off to the Sweet 16. Of the Wolverines’ 78 points, 75 of them came from the starting five, with Mitch McGary scoring 21 to lead the way.
