Iowa State is set to pose a fascinating question to the rest of college basketball this season. Can a team made up almost entirely of transfers win anything? Iowa State will start transfers Royce White, Chris Allen and Chris Babb this season as part of a grand experiment by second-year coach Fred Hoiberg. He has adopted an unorthodox rebuilding strategy the rest of the Big 12 will be keeping a close eye on. Iowa State, which finished 16-16 last season, opens against Lehigh on Nov. 12.

  • All the magazines on the one hand praise the best transfers in college basketball but don't even give Iowa State a shot at the top 5 finishers in the Conference. I think they underestimate the skills of Fred Hoiberg as a coach. He inherited nothing last year and still got what amounts to a rag tag team of 7 to finish with a 500 record including being highly competitve with top teams in the conference. This year will be a totally different story, he will have the best tall forward in the country and 270 lbs I might add in Royce White to play with 4 of the best outside shooting guards in the nation. These sports writers will be in for a big surprise but not myself.
