Kentucky head coach John Calipari pulled off a doozie of a substitution at the KFC Yum! Center on Saturday. However, this one wasn't of the legal variety. Russ Smith of Louisville fouled Kentucky’s Nerlens Noel in the lane late in the first half Saturday. The ref points at Smith, and the box score has a foul charged to Smith. Noel, a 52 percent foul shooter, steps to the line. Then, at the :23 mark, you see Noel look to the bench, and No. 22 on Kentucky, Alex Poythress, does the same. Then, Noel heads to the Kentucky bench to get a word with Calipari. That's when Poythress takes advantage and sneaks in to replace him at the charity stripe. Not only does everyone on Louisville not catch it, but neither does any of the referees! Poythress would go on to sink one of the two free throws. By the law of averages, that is about what one could have expected out of Noel. The ball never lies, right? The No. 4-ranked Cardinals would go on to dispatch Calipari and the Wildcats by a tally of 80-77. UK's atrocious 47% shooting from the free throw line was undoubtedly much to blame for the loss. This just goes to prove the old saying that cheaters never win, folks. Via Big Lead Sports.
