Burke and Hardaway spark Michigan Basketball in exhibition win

Notes and observations from Michigan Basketball’s scrimmage with Wayne State. The Wolverines pulled out a 47-39 victory and the game was as out of sync as the score indicates. Only 4 Michigan players scored and they turned the ball over 14 times. Stu Douglass attributed Michigan’s clunky play to the team learning new roles and experimenting with different line ups. Tim Hardaway...

Mitch McGary decides to Grow Blue with Michigan Basketball

How does a program on the rise make a statement that it is officially back? You outsell Duke, Florida, and North Carolina and earn the commitment of a national treasure. That’s how. Mitch McGary has finally made official what a lot of people in and around Michigan basketball thought he would. The #2 prospect in the nation is going to be a Michigan Wolverine. Mitch McGary McGary...

Reaction: What Mitch McGary Means to Michigan

“I am excited about this new opportunity at Michigan, I wouldn’t go there if I didn’t think they could win a national championship.” That was John Beilein in 2007 on the day he accepted the Michigan job. It sounded optimistic at best for a program that hadn’t made the tournament in nearly a decade and a coach whose reputation was built on Cinderella runs more than conference...

Playing its first game with a freshman point guard in a newly renovated Crisler Arena, nothing seemed to go smoothly for Michigan. In Defense of Tim Hardaway and Mike Munger

Recently, CLNS writer Nick Sannicandro wrote a piece on homosexuality in sports.  In it, he expressed the opinion that the culture of fear pervasive in sports is keeping professional athletes in the closet.  I do not agree with many of his conclusions, and in fact, previously wrote an article putting forth different ideas.  He and I have different opinions, both expressed publicly...

Trey Burke, Stu Douglass are good options at point guard for U-M

Though he's working with a small sample, Michigan coach John Beilein has been impressed with the point guard play. Trying to fill the gaping hole left by Darius Morris' off-season departure, Beilein is studying point guards Trey Burke, a freshman, and senior Stu Douglass, who has made himself into a point guard with his versatility.

It was a mild surprise when the PA announcer called sophomore Jon Horford's name during introductions Friday night in Michigan's game against Wayne State. That was about the only surprise as Michigan cruised to a ho-hum, 47-39 exhibition victory at Crisler Arena. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 14 second-half points among his team-high 20.
