Coach Kevin Sumlin’s Texas A&M Aggies landed a consensus top ten recruiting class, a haul which once again signifies the program’s ascent back toward the forefront of the national landscape of college football. Not only is such success in luring highly coveted prospects to College Station attributable to the Aggies, but it is also a result of the recent turnover occurring for their longtime Lone Star State nemesis the Texas Longhorns. The rapid rise of the Aggies back toward national prominence has seemingly occurred courtesy of a perfect storm, a tremendous wave of momentum in College Station which has catapulted the program. The visibility surrounding the TAMU program has increased exponentially over the past two seasons, a tenure which has coincided with the emergence of Heisman Trophy-winning QB Johnny Manziel as well as the Aggies’ on-field success during their initial stage as a Southeastern Conference member. TAMU very evidently has capitalized greatly upon a very enticing selling point utilized by Sumlin in promising elite prospects the opportunity to showcase their abilities in an offense catered to them. The recent resurgence of Aggie football the past two seasons can undoubtedly be attributed to the meteoric rise and emergence of departed QB Johnny Manziel. He quickly and unexpectedly developed into the most instantly recognizable face across the national landscape, renowned for his uncanny penchant for improvising to create big plays out of seemingly adverse situations. While TAMU will undeniably miss the irreplaceable qualities and intangibles which Manziel brought to College Station, the Aggies can appreciate the residual positive effects subsequently enjoyed by the program in his absence. He fostered a resounding and infectious attitude of belief around the program which has very clearly served to pay major dividends for TAMU on the recruiting trail. And Manziel generated a tremendous wave of momentum for the program upon his exodus, punctuating a second consecutive season of at least nine wins by igniting a memorable 21-point comeback to top the Duke Blue Devils in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve. By all accounts, the A&M Aggies signed one of the premier recruiting classes nationally yesterday. Undeniably such supreme recruiting efforts are critical in order to compete in the ever unforgiving SEC West division. And such resounding success off the field can ultimately be attributed to the rapid emergence of QB Johnny Manziel and to the resurgence markedly enhanced visibility of the program largely engineered by him. 1 total views, 1 views today
