PLAYERS: Bobby Petrino
Former Arkansas Razorbacks head coach Bobby Petrino has accepted the head coaching position at Western Kentucky. Petrino, who will be taking over for Willie Taggart who left to take the opening at South Florida after the Bulls fired Skip Holtz, had aspirations of returning to the SEC. Petrino, through his father, let it be known that he was very interested in the opening at Kentucky, but the Wildcats chose to steer clear of Petrino and hired Mark Stoops instead. Petrino’s failure to get a job at a major level program shows that schools are still worried about his image after the whole Jessica Dorrell debacle. Petrino brings with him an offense that brought Louisville to national prominence and had Arkansas ranked 3rd at the end of his time with the school. While Petrino won’t be playing in the SEC, he will regularly face SEC opponents at Western Kentucky, and will get chance to both improve his image and show just how good of an offensive coach he is. The Hilltoppers open the 2013 season with Kentucky and follow that game with Tennessee, so right off the bat Petrino will have a shot at showing two schools that had openings and passed on him that they made the wrong decision.
