Fox Sports Carolinas:
Boston College senior Andre Williams is one of the true under-the-radar stars nationally, logging a whopping 1,471 and 12 touchdowns entering Saturday's game against N.C. State. Only Southern Cal and Clemson managed to hold him under 100 yards this season and he had logged at least 200 yards on three separate occasions.
Make that four separate occasions.
Better yet, make it at least 300 yards for the first time this season.
Even better, in what was simply a dominant performance against the Wolfpack on Saturday, Williams rushed 42 times for an ACC-record 339 yards and two scores. The previous mark was set by Wake Forest's John Leach (329) back in 1993. Here's a larger list of Williams' accomplishments following the record-breaking display:
-- Shattered school's single-season record set by ... Andre Williams last week against New Mexico State (295).
-- His 634 yards over the past two games came up just shy of Ricky Williams' all-time two-game NCAA record of 668 yards set back in 1998.
-- Andre Williams' 1,810 rushing yards this season sets the ACC single-season record previously held by Virginia's Thomas Jones, a long-time NFL back. Jones rushed for 1,798 yards back in 1999. And yes, Williams still has three games remaining (the Eagles became bowl-eligible in the N.C. State win).
-- Given his production over the past four weeks, Williams, the nation's leading rusher, is at least within striking distance of Barry Sanders' NCAA record of 2,628 yards set back in 1988 at Oklahoma State. Don't expect it to happen, but that's the type of pace Williams is on. (Also of note: Sanders set that mark in just 11 games, and the record does not even recognize his bowl performance that season. Yikes.)
When it was all over and the Eagles were officially bowl-eligible, this was the scene:
