Found August 13, 2013 on In The Neutral Zone:
It really gets me that we have not played a game and here at the predictions for the 2013 – 2014 Season. I love looking at who they have picked and WHY. Phil Steel’s from The Bleacher Report has made his choices and I found it interesting on some of what he had today. There are other games listed but here are the five that caught my eye. **Game One - Valero Alamo Bowl  Oklahoma Sooners  from the Big 12 finishing at number 3 to face off against the Stanford Cardinals from the PAC-12 finishing at number 2. Due to loss of key players the Sooners will take a loss in the BCS standings. Two road games to Kansas State and Notre Dame , who beat them in the regular season last year could be road blocks in their way. The Cardinals have established themselves in the PAC – 12 along with Oregon. They will have an easy start to the season but in the later part of the season with three of their last four games against, Oregon, USC and Notre Dame, they could come unstuck. ‘ Neither Oklahoma or Stanford will win their respective leagues which makes this call for the Alamo Bowl Game on target. **Game Two - Chick – Fil – a Bowl   They are calling this match up a miss and it makes for a bit of interesting reading as to why this call is wrong. The Virginia Tech Hokies from the ACC No. 2) against the  South Carolina Gamecocks from the SEC No. 5. The main reason they are calling this wrong is Virginia tech won’t finish any higher than second and the SC Gamecocks won’t finish as low as fifth, The Hokies really struggled last year to even to get a bowl selection. They are facing opening their season against the Alabama Crimson Tide, I can’t imagine what that will do the for the confidence. They only have FOUR starters returning for the season. Carolina has the best defense player in the country in Jadeveon Clowney. Steve Spurrier is their coach and with Connor Shaw at the helm in the quarterback position, they should have a break through season in the SEC. The two teams looking to finish above the  Gamecocks are Alabama, LSU, and possibly  Georgia. The Gamecocks should be a late-season contender, in the  BCS standings, and they should not be demoted down to the fifth-best SEC bowl. ***Game Three – The Discover Orange Bowl They are calling this one a hit between the Florida State  Seminoles (BCS,ACC) up against the Louisville Cardinals(ACC tie-in) The bowl game will feature really good teams that will win weak conferences, The new ACC,(American Athletic Conference) which is replacing the Big East is not a real stand out with only Clemson and Virginia Tech a shot of being a real contender. Florida and Louisville should be great in 2013 and the winner of this match up will be one of the premiere teams in the country come the season’s end. The Florida State  team is only returning 10 starters from last year, but has a rooster of talent. Louisville is on a hot streak from winning the 2013 Sugar Bowl, they have one of the best quarterbacks in Teddy Bridgewater. (it is reported that he took out a 10 MILLION dollar insurance policy, being projected in the Top 5 in the 2014 NFL Draft) The only worry for the Cardinals should be Cincinnati Bearcats but they should make the post season with no issues. ***Game Four - Tostitos Fiesta Bowl  This is a miss  with the Texas Longhorns (Big 12 Tie-in) and the University of Southern California Trojans (USC)(BCS at large). USC should have a better season this year then last but the issue are with the Longhorns. Texas won the 2012 league and made the Bowl game with no issues but this year will be different, for many reasons. Their main issue is with their quarterback David Ash who will have trouble calling the new, fast paced offense, which will cause mistakes. Baylor, Kansas State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and TCU are all ticked to finish above Texas even if they have a good year. The two teams being tipped to be a real contender for the top nod are TCU and Baylor. The past few seasons has seen Texas get lofty ticks to do well but only to not be able to finish the list to make it to a Bowl game and this will be no different. ***Game Five – BCS National Championship Alabama Crimson Tide (BCS 1) against The Ohio State Buckeyes (BCS 2). Being a massive die-hard Buckeye fan how can i NOT chose this game to look at. Alabama and Coach Saban will be a tough team with face with 14 starters returning who were on the National Championship team from last year. In those 14 returning team members is  Quarterback A.J. McCarron, who is considered to be one of the  of the nation’s underrated quarterbacks, joining him will be  C.J. Mosley, who racked up 107 tackles last year. Ohio State who was held back from playing for the title due to the NCAA restrictions, now has nothing holding them back. The Buckeye’s went 12 – 0 last year and with the desire to claim what they were denied last year, it’s going to be scary to watch how good they will be this season. Braxton Miller is back directing the offense and there should be a mountain of points scored. This will be an all out war, with Alabama having nothing to lose  and Ohio State out to clam what they were denied last that. A perfect season of 13 – 0 and the rightful claim to call themselves, National Champions I fully expect there to be surprises and those teams that are in the mix that we just do not expect. There are other games listed but I chose the five that interested me as I read. Keep in mind that you will see various lists coming out over the next weeks prior to the open kickoff in August. This is the final year for the BCS set up in this way before the playoff system begins. See You at the Shoe Cricket
