Sunday is Tuesday. At least that’s what Al Golden wants his players and coaches to believe as the Canes held their weekly presser on Sunday, which is normally held on Tuesdays during a normal week. However, this is not your normal week–at least as it relates to recent normalcy. The Hurricanes team is entering a game week ranked #10 in the Associated Press Poll (11 in the Coaches Poll). It’s the first time Miami has been ranked in the top 10 since October 24, 2009 when a then-ranked-eighth Miami Hurricanes fell to Clemson in overtime.
Al Golden talked about a lot about UNC’s fast-paced offense led by senior QB Bryn Renner, who is returning after a foot injury. He also talked about the strengths of Carolina’s defense.
As always, Al gives good presser, as my colleague Dan LeBatard likes to say…Take a Listen!
Defensive coordinator Mark D’Onofrio, who is always awesome when we get a chance to talk to him, also broke down Carolina’s offense and said that Renner is a “Pro Quarterback.” Take a listen to what Coach D had to say:
QB Stephen Morris updated us on his ankle, talked about whether the team is concerned about being ranked in the top 10 and also gave his thoughts on how he, as a leader, has to keep everyone’s mind right going into this game. Listen Here
WE also got some defensive perspective from Safety Rayshawn Jenkins…Let him tell you what’s important for this Canes defense this week
Some other notes-
-Al Golden still wasn’t sure if Rashawn Scott is ready to go coming off the shoulder/collar bone injury. Al said, ” I won’t take him if he’s not going to play.”
-Al said that Stephen is good to go with his ankle. Morris confirmed. We’ll see how he looks on Thursday night.
-Coach D said that C. King is behind the rest of the tackles right now. It’s CP, OP, Renfrow, and Earl Moore with Jelani Hamilton bringing up the rear and King is behind those guys
-James Coley (we’ll have his sound up later..so check back) talked about the reason that Miami has gotten better on 3rd down conversion, which they were horrible at in the first part of the season, comes down to guys are now making plays they weren’t earlier in the year. Think about the plays Walford, Coley, Hurns, and others are now making. Not to mention, Duke and Dallas seem to be in a groove now as RBs.
-Obviously not being talked about at all by anyone is this team being ranked in the top 10. Remember, “it’s a process.”
