PLAYERS: Khalil Mack

PHOTO COURTESY: UBBULLS.COM There has been a lot of debate on who the Houston Texans will take with the first overall pick.  Teddy Bridgewater? Jadaveon Clowney? Johnny Manziel? The NFL Network’s Mike Mayock thinks they should go in a different direction. In an interview with Minneapolis radio station KFAN, Mayock said he would take Khalil Mack from Buffalo with the first pick.  He even went as far as comparing Mack with Clowney, and said right now he would go with Mack if he had to choose between the two. Here is what Mayock said according to “He’s explosive off the edge, he’s tough, he’s twitchy, he’s got a little edge about him.  [Mack] dominated Ohio State like nobody I’ve ever seen dominate them.  You talk about a kid like [Jadeveon] Clowney, who’s just got superhuman abilities, versus this kid, and if I had a choice between the two, I think I’m taking Mack.” The University of Buffalo product started to get national attention this year as he put up monster numbers week in and week out.  He registered 100 tackles and 14 sacks this season and returned two of his three interceptions for touchdowns. Over his career, he set an NCAA record with 16 forced fumbles and tied the record for most tackles for loss with 75.  Mack has been compared to Broncos linebacker Von Miller. As long as Mack doesn’t get himself suspended, Miller is a great player to be compared to. What prevents Mack from getting more consideration for that top spot is that he played in the lowly Mid American Conference (MAC), which isn’t exactly known for it’s football programs.  Despite that, last year’s number one pick Eric Fisher came from Central Michigan, which is also a member of the MAC. So, could Mayock be on to something? There is a reason he is an NFL analyst and it’s because he knows the game. Then again, he did praise Jets guard Vlad Ducasse during the Jets week two game against the Patriots.  I think Jets fans know how that has turned out. Khalil Mack would be my No. 1 overall pick

A Mid-American Conference player went first in the 2013 draft, and if NFL Media draft analyst Mike Mayock had his way, a MAC player would go No. 1 in 2014, too. Appearing on Minneapolis radio station KFAN on Friday morning, Mayock said he would take Buffalo outside linebacker Khalil Mack first overall. Central Michigan offensive tackle Eric Fisher was the No. 1 pick in the '...
