My game of the week for week 8 is No.3 Clemson Tigers against the No.5 Florida State Seminoles. This game has the potential to be the best game we have seen all year. Both teams have legit national championship aspirations. It is going to be two good offenses against two good defenses going toe to toe on a national stage. The story of the game has to be the quarterback matchup. Both Heisman hopefuls, Jameis Winston and Tajh Boyd have been tearing it up this season and this game gives them both a chance to display their talents against one of the best teams in the nation. Florida State has been a powerhouse this season. Their 5-0 record and No.5 ranking is well deserved as they have dominated most of their opponents. The Seminoles have had two weeks to prepare for the Tigers because of a bye week last week. Before the bye week Florida State completely dismantled the Maryland Terrapins 63-0, Maryland was a top 25 team and a top 15 defense at the time. The Seminoles rushing offense is 17th in the nation averaging 228.2 yards per game. Jameis Winston is tied for 5th in the nation in touchdown passes with 17. He’s also 7th in the nation in points accounted for with 102 points. The Florida State defense is 7th in the nation only allowing 276.8 yards per game. They’re also 2nd against the pass only allowing 149 yards per game and they’re 3rd in the country in points allowed with only 12 points allowed per game.  If Florida State can stop Clemson’s offense from running amuck Jameis Winston might take this game over early. The No.3 Clemson Tigers are one if the best teams in the country. They have had a few scares lately but I think them not falling into a trap game and getting “Clemsoned” this year speaks to the resilience of Dabo Swinney and his coaching staff. Senior quarterback Tajh Boyd is 15th on the nation in passing yards with 1,783. He is also 9th in passing touchdowns with 15 scoring tosses. Boyd’s favorite target Sammy Watkins is 25th in receiving yards with 582. Tajh and Sammy are one of the most dangerous passing duos in the nation. If they aren’t contained Florida States 2nd ranked pass defense might take a hit in the standings. The Florida State offensive line is going to have to double and maybe even triple team Clemson defensive end Vic Beasley. Vic is 2nd in the country in sacks with 9 total. His speed off the edge presents offensive linemen with a very difficult task to keep him in front of them. This will be probably the best offense the Clemson defense will face all year. Clemson will have their hands full on both sides of the football but if Tajh Boyd and Sammy Watkins can get on the same page early I think it’s going to be tough for Florida State to contain those two. At the end of the day, I’m picking Florida State to win this game 34-31. I think it is going to be a good defensive first half and the offenses will break out after both coaching staffs make adjustments. I think Tajh Boyd has a great game and accounts for two touchdowns but ultimately falls short in the end. I predict Jameis will also play great and account for 3 touchdowns. It should be a great game between two top 5 teams and that is why it’s my pick for game of the week.
