A group of Notre Dame athletes won friends at the University of Alabama long before anyone knew these schools were on course to play for the national football championship. Two dozen of them traveled from South Bend, Ind., to tornado-ravaged Tuscaloosa, Ala., during fall break in 2011. They cleared lots and hauled debris a few months after the storm left more than 50 dead in the college town. Notre Dame cheerleader David Jones says the warm reception made Alabama ''one of my favorite schools.'' Tide coach Nick Saban says the action by students at schools like Notre Dame, Auburn and Kent State ''speaks volumes for the kind of character and leadership that those people have.'' The ''Fight for Tide'' service project didn't include any football players.

Alabama judge delays trial so defense lawyer can attend BCS Championship Game

Birmingham defense lawyer and Alabama football fanatic Marcus Jones III will get to go to Miami to see his beloved Crimson Tide take on Notre Dame in the BCS National Championship Game because a judge decided to delay a trial. Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Scott Vowell issued a continuance for a Jan. 7 civil trial that Jones was involved in. “While I remain an Auburn...

Tom Osborne leaves lasting impact

When Nick Saban's Crimson Tide step onto the field of Sun Life Stadium in Miami next week, all the talk will be about history. Can Saban's young men win their third BCS Championship Game in four years? Can Saban become the first college coach to win four national titles in 10 years, something not even the great Bear Bryant accomplished? Can we now justifiably call Saban the...

Report: Browns are the only team Nick Saban would return to NFL to coach

Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports told Bull and Fox on CBS Radio in Cleveland that if Alabama head coach Nick Saban does return to the NFL, it would be to coach the Cleveland Browns. With the Browns being expected to “clean house,” it sounds like Saban would be willing to buy into what new owner Jimmy Haslam and Vice President Joe banner are trying to put together. It sounds like...

Tide Must Finish To Finish Business

Everyone is aware that Alabama’s football team has something to finish this year. But that’s the big picture, the result. The process means finishing a lot of things. “Finish, finish, finish,” emphasized Alabama Coach Nick Saban following the Crimson Tide’s final practice of the year Saturday.

College Football: Should Notre Dame Even Bother Showing Up to Play?

I realize the ridiculousness of that headline, trust me I do—and bet that it was written with a LOT of sarcasm—but when you see Sports Illustrated printing out covers predicting another Crimson Tide win (they even offered a score for crying out loud), don’t you wonder who’s minding the media’s store on this sort of thing? I mean, seriously? Somewhere you just know Nick...

The great Auburn anti-Alabama t-shirt campaign wages on

The campaign by Auburn Tiger fans against the Alabama Crimson Tide is waging on. Earlier today we saw Notre Dame fans make fun of Alabama with a mobile homes shirt. We also saw the WarIrish shirts and WarIrish buttons campaign take place. Tennessee even jumped in on the fight against the Alabama Crimson Tide. I think it’s safe to say people don’t want AJ McCarron and Nick Saban’s...
