Stanford's Troy Taylor 'Not Ready To Commit' To Who Will Start at Quarterback In Week 3
USA TODAY Sports

Despite being three weeks into the season, Stanford quarterback situation remains unsettled following what was a very concerning Week 2 showing from Ashton Daniels.

When speaking to then media on Tuesday, head coach Troy Taylor affirmed that Daniels is cleared to play against Sacramento State after leaving the USC game in the second quarter with an injury. However, when asked if Daniels or Syracuse transfer Justin Lamson would get the start against his former team, Taylor declined to name a starter.

The quarterback situation was one of my biggest questions following the Week 2 loss to USC, and based on Taylor's statement he too may be reconsidering his decision.

Daniels looked extremely good in Stanford's Week 1 win over Hawaii throwing for 249 yards and two touchdowns, but against USC he appeared to be rattled and was horribly ineffective. Before going down with the injury, Daniels finished just 2-of-7 for 19 yards and threw an interception.

Lamson came in to replace the injured Daniels, and while he struggled at times he was able to lead Stanford to both of their scoring drives of the game one of which was him rushing in a touchdown. While there are not many positives to take from a game that Stanford lost by 46 points, Lamson was clearly the more effective quarterback.

He and Daniels both took first team reps throughout fall camp, and the decision came down to the wire as Taylor didn't announce the starter until Daniels took the field against Hawaii.

Whoever is leading the charge will be tasked with helping guide the Cardinal to a victory over Taylor's previous team, as they are set to take on Sacramento State for the first home game of the year and of the Taylor era.
