Wisconsin OLine Wisconsin Fires OL Coach Wisconsin Badgers Offensive Line Montee Ball Mike Markuson Coaching Changes Bart miller

Mike Markuson is out as the offensive line coach for Wisconsin. This was Markuson’s first year with the Badgers and had only coached two games thus far. Before joining Wisconsin, Markuson was an offensive line coach for Arkansas and Mississippi.

Bart Miller, currently in his second season as the quality control coach on offense, is expected to take Markuson’s place. Miller played at New Mexico from ’04-’07 and worked as a Grad Assistant at New Mexico State before joining the Badgers.

Markuson’s departure follows Wisconsin’s 10-7 loss at Oregon State this past Saturday. Despite returning Heisman candidate Montee Ball, Wisconsin ran for only 35 yards on 23 rushing attempts averaging a laughable 1.5 yards per carry. Transfer QB Danny O’Brien was sacked 3 times for a loss of 35 yards.

After Wisconsin’s loss against the Beavers, Jr. C Travis Frederick said, “Last week was the first time we ever had a game rep under coach Markuson and coach (Matt) Canada (Offensive Coordinator). There were a few different things. I thought we kind of worked through those.

I didn’t notice a lot of big things that were problems, but it just comes down to communication. What we used to do, everyone had their job and you did this and this, and this is how everybody knew it. It’s just a little different.”

Badgers have taken a clear step back

Common sense suggests a returning Heisman Trophy finalist at running back ought to touch the ball with his team trailing in the fourth quarter, badly needing one yard on fourth down. Then again, plenty of what Wisconsin's football team presented on the field Saturday afternoon defied logic. So instead, Badgers running back Montee Ball watched from the backfield as quarterback...

The fall of Montee Ball and what it means for Wisconsin

I often hear people say that the Heisman Trophy is irrelevant. I understand the sentiment. After all, it’s a team sport and the Heisman honors individual achievement. On Saturday night I tweeted out a link to my analysis of Montee Ball’s fading Heisman hopes and a Wisconsin fan responded “I think team is in more [...]

Canada takes blame for Badgers' woes

MADISON, Wis. Matt Canada stood in front of the firing squad Sunday night, facing questions from the media for the first time since Wisconsin's putrid 10-7 loss at Oregon State one day earlier. Canada, Wisconsin's offensive coordinator, took sole responsibility for the offensive woes all game long. "Nobody's any more disappointed than me," Canada said. "...

Wisconsin Badgers loss stings but not a season-ender

A shot at the National Championship Game is off the table, but that doesn’t necessarily mean the Wisconsin Badgers season is over. Yes, they were outplayed in every facet of the game in a 10-7 loss to the Oregon State Beavers. Bad play on the road is nothing new for the Badgers. Even Russell Wilson couldn’t save them from going 2-2 in true road games last season, including a...

Wisconsin Fires Offensive Line Coach After Two Games

The Wisconsin Badgers clearly needed something to change after an embarrassing 10-7 loss to Oregon State on Saturday. Well, a change has been made. Head coach Bret Bielema fired offensive line coach Mike Markuson after just two games, but he swears it’s not a knee-jerk reaction to his team’s slow start offensively. Bielema claimed there were personal matters involving Markuson’s...

What We Learned In Week 2 of College Football

After a somewhat dull week one in college football, were people upset in week two?  Well the spoiler to that is yes, and man, were they big.  With that said here is what we learned in week two in the world of college football. The Big Ten should not go out west for a long, long time: The saving graces for the Big Ten on Saturday were Ohio State beating UCF, Michigan barely...

Monday Medicine: Wisconsin Badgers

When Wisconsin almost crapped the bed in their opener against FCS Northern Iowa Brett Bielema compared it to a kid sticking his hand near a hot stove and learning his lesson. Midway through their shocking Week 2 loss at Oregon State reader Nick asked us, "If last week was Wisconsin touching the stove, what's this? Dumping a pot of boiling water on their own heads?"...

Bielema Sheds Light on Offensive Line Transition

Transition on a coaching staff is rarely seen in-season, but on Monday Wisconsin head coach Bret Bielema made official what was reported on Sunday night. Offensive line coach Mike Markuson is out as position coach and in his place will be Bart Miller, who has been an offensive quality control assistant and grad assistant at Wisconsin. So, why the transition in season?  ...

UW o-line coach Markuson fired by Bielema

MADISON, Wis. The long plane ride Saturday night from Oregon back to Wisconsin gave Badgers coach Bret Bielema plenty of time to collect his thoughts. Still seething from an embarrassing 10-7 loss to Oregon State, he contemplated Wisconsin's product on the field during the first two weeks of this season. And he outlined a blueprint for what he wanted the team to look like moving...

Report: Markuson out as offensive line coach

Just a day after a lackluster offensive performance in a loss to Oregon State, Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema is already making changes to his coaching staff. The Wisconsin State Journal reported late Sunday night that Bielema has fired offensive line coach Mike Markuson, just two games into his tenure. Offensive quality control coach Bart Miller is likely to take over as the new...

Bielema Takes Action, Markuson Out as O-Line Coach

Numbers don't lie and after two games the Badgers bread and butter running game was not up to standards, as a result it's being reported by multiple sources that offensive line coach Mike Markuson has been let go. The Badgers managed just 35 yards rushing as a team on Saturday in the loss to Oregon State. That kind of production just doesn't cut it and clearly...
