The much-antipiated Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition was released earlier this week. Kate Upton snagged the coveted cover spot for the second year in a row, a feat that has not happened since Tyra Banks covered back-to-back issues in 1996 and 1997. While the magazine means endless opportunities for a model’s career, it’s also a business booster for featured apparel and accessory brands. Last year’s cover suit from Suit Yourself Bikinis by Kathleen Bruening sold out in just about 20 minutes. In this year’s “Bikini Oscars” as they’re often dubbed, Letarte Swimwear came out a winner. Like Upton, the company scored it’s second appearance on an SI Swimsuit Edition cover.
Designer Lisa Letarte Cabrinha’s suits from Letarte swimwear have made it into the edition every year that she has submitted swimsuits for consideration. Upton’s white, mesh bikini bottoms featured on the cover are part of the brand’s Summer collection. They are paired with a triangle bikini top, not seen on the cover. The full suit retails for $184 and is available for pre-order here.
Upton’s tiny bottoms are paired with a white jacket. Winter wear is not typically associated with the SI Swimsuit Edition but this shoot, which was three years in the making, took place in Antarctica. The fur-hooded “Chilliwack Bomber” comes from Canada Goose and it’s one of the brand’s most beloved styles. To snag the $595 jacket, check out these retailers.
More than 18 million women read the SI Swimsuit Edition and this year’s issue includes a new editorial feature to appeal to those female readers. The six-page, Target-sponsored “Style Guide” features swimsuit tips and trends to help women re-create looks within the pages of the magazine.
