For the second time in a month, rumors have been swirling that Rory McIlroy and Caroline Wozniacki are engaged. Last month, Serena Williams’ hitting partner made everyone believe the power couple had taken the next step in their relationship with a prank on Twitter. Then on Friday, reports surfaced that Wozniacki showed up to the Brisbane International sporting a diamond ring on her left ring finger.

According to McIlroy, the couple is not engaged. The world’s No. 1 golfer said that the rumors are untrue in a short statement on Friday afternoon.

“On behalf of Rory McIlroy I would like to confirm that he has NOT become engaged to Caroline Wozniacki as was originally reported in Australian press,” the statement said according to The Score. “Rory is in Australia to support Caroline before he heads in January to Abu Dhabi.”

Adding to the speculation earlier this week was this photo. As some of our commenters pointed out, you can see a tiny speck on Caroline’s left ring finger that could potentially be some sort of ring, but the photo is not nearly clear enough to tell.

On one hand, I’m inclined to subscribe to the “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” theory. On the other hand, Rory and Woz seem to love the public spotlight and showing everyone how much they adore each other. In fact, it even gets sickening at times. Are they really the type of couple that would keep an engagement a secret? It seems unlikely.

Desmond Howard uses slur when discussing Dolphins locker room

ESPN college football analyst Desmond Howard appeared on SportsCenter Friday morning to discuss the saga in the Dolphins locker room. (Because honestly, who hasn't given their opinion about it at this point?) During his segment, Howard expressed his frustration with the "honorary black guy" line of thinking that several Dolphins players have been rolling out this week...

Has Johnny Manziel played his final home game at Kyle Field?

PHOTO: USA Today Sports It was senior night in College Station on Saturday as the Texas A&M Aggies outlasted the Mississippi State Bulldogs 51-41. Johnny Manziel had an up and down game going 30 of 39 for 446 yards with 5 TDs but he also threw three interceptions.  At the end of the game, it felt like this was the farewell to College Station for Manziel. Manziel is a red...

Tom Izzo came up with a really good response to John Calipari calling Tuesday's impending matchup between No. 1 Kentucky and No. 2 Michigan State "unfair" to play for Calipari's young Wildcats this early in the season. But first let's take another look at exactly what Calipari said about the game to serve as context.“The issue becomes playing teams (like Michigan...

Braxton Miller takes note of Michigan's loss to Nebraska

Man, Ohio State is really picking on Michigan today. This morning, we showed you the hilarious custom Buckeyes toilet that shows the Wolverines the ultimate disrespect. This evening, it’s not even just the OSU fans, but the players that are having fun at Michigan’s expense. Michigan lost its second game in a row and third game of the season this afternoon against Nebraska,...

Things have gotten a pretty crazy in Miami lately.  On top of the ongoing investigation involving Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito, a report has now surfaced claiming that former cornerback Vontae Davis was traded to the Indianapolis Colts back before the start of the 2012 season partly because he was going to the bathroom too much. Victor Cruz: Nine wins should take the NFC East

I like Victor Cruz’s assessment of the situation, but that would also require the G-Men to win out the rest of the way. The Giants are 2-6 after the bye week, and face the somewhat unrealistic burden of trying to make a playoff off, while seemingly out of it. The NFC East is likely the worst division in football this season, and because of that, it allows the Giants some hope....
