The PGA Tour shifts from Kentucky to Texas this week for the Charles Schwab Challenge at Colonial Country Club, a short, positional golf course that allows shorter hitters to compete in a way they can't on long tracks. That gives us ample long-shot options to target this week, so let's break down two players we like in the outright and finishing position markets.
Ben Kohles was dreadful for the first four months of the season, but he's finally starting to find his groove. The PGA Tour rookie contended at the CJ Cup Bryson Nelson (another Texas tournament) and nearly won before a bogey on the 72nd hole dropped him back to solo second. He then finished T26 at the PGA Championship last week in just the second major championship start of his career.
Kohles, who's been bleeding strokes with his irons and putter all year, has gained strokes on approach and on the green in two of his last three starts. If he can keep it rolling in those two areas, he's a good fit for Colonial as a short hitter who's deadly accurate off the tee.

Justin Lower is sneakily playing solid golf right now. The 35-year-old veteran has five top-30 finishes and a T4 in his last six starts, and he's been on fire with his irons and putter.
Some of Lower's best finishes this season have come in the state of Texas. He finished T28 at the Texas Children's Houston Open, T25 at the Valero Texas Open and T24 at the CJ Cup Byron Nelson. This is the type of course that fits Lower's eye, and he's playing well enough in every facet of the game to put together another strong finish in Texas.
