Golfer Rory McIIroy took control in the final round of the PGA Championship, he played some great golf making a charge to stay in front of the rest of the field on a day the wind was blowing in off the Ocean in South Carolina at the Ocean Course on Kiawah Island. McIIroy made birdies in his final round at holes 2,3 and 7 to go out in 33, Then he would make birdie on the 12th. Through 13 holes McIIroy didn’t have a blemish on his card and he was looking to keep it that way. McIIroy was at 11 under par clear of the field by 6 full strokes with 5 holes left to play in the PGA Championship.

McIIroy made par at 14 and 15 and continued his way in with full control of the Championship. On the 16th tee McIIroy killed his tee shot and put himself in a great position to go for the green in 2. McIIroy would go for the green in 2 after his 344 yard drive he only had 239 left and hit a 4 iron that would end up in a waste bunker just left of his target. He hit a great bunker shot to leave himself about 5 feet for the birdie. McIIroy would roll his birdie putt in to take a 7 stroke lead over the rest of the field. McIIroy did today what Tiger Woods used to do the the field. HE simply continued to pull away.

On the 17th tee McIIroy hit a big 4 iron and pulled the shot left of the green past the large green-side bunker onto the down-slop just into the rough. McIIroy hit another good pitch shot to about 8 feet of the hole and had that putt left to save his par. He rolled it in like it was a 3 footer to keep his card bogey free for the day. With one hole left to go this 23-year-old kid had a 7 stroke lead over the rest of the field. McIIroy would only have one hole left to play before claiming his second Major. With this second win McIIroy moves into some great company, at 23 years old he is a bit older than Jack was when he claimed his second Major and a bit younger than Tiger was when he claimed his second Major.

McIIroy stepped onto the 18th tee and hit another long drive, McIIroy had only 143 yards left after his 350 yard drive. He hit 9 iron onto the 18th green and had about 12-14 feet left for birdie. McIIroy wore a red shirt in his Sunday final round, something we have seen Tiger do for years.

Rory McIIroy would step up to his ball just left of the flag-stick on the 18th green putting for the birdie and to close out his second Major Championship. The McIIroy Magic continued as he rolled in his birdie put to break Jack Nicklaus’s record for a 8 shot margin of victory in the PGA Championship. Look out Golfing World you have a new guy on the block. With his second Major win McIIroy should also move to number one in the world…..McIIroy shoots a 66 today to give him a total score of 275 and his second Major Championship….Well done Rory,Well Done!!!

Short Putts (News & Notes)

…Rory McIlroy wins PGA Championship at Kiawah Island by eight strokes over David Lynn. When I woke up Sunday morning, the fourth round was just underway.
