Leaders Fall
Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell seem to have the field in their rear view but if history teaches us anything, neither of these players will win. In the previous 4 US Open’s at Olympic Club, the 54 hole leader has not been able to hoist the trophy. The history becomes more telling when you realize those 4 leaders were the biggest names in golf. Ben Hogan (1955), Arnold Palmer (1966), Tom Watson (1987) and Payne Stewart (1998) all fell short in closing the deal. Furyk and McDowell have certainly impressed up to this point, but with the difficulty of the course, anything can certainly happen. One thing I do know though, those legends didn’t have 5 Hour Energy! Upset Potential
Beau Hossler It’s been amazing watching this 17 year old battle the first 3 days. He has shown astonishing poise with his bounce back. During the third round, he was able to follow up every bogey with a birdie in route to an even par round of 70.In a few months, he starts his senior year of high school, and what better way to guarantee at least one of the cheer squad will be interested than strapping the US Open Trophy to your backpack and cruising the hall? If he can get to even par it is truly possible for this young man to come away the champion. There has not been an amateur victor since 1933 and he would be the youngest champion by 2 years, by out youthing John McDermont (19 in 1911)! StraitPinkie wishes Beau the best! Don’t Bother
Tiger Woods
If Tiger doesn’t win it’s a disaster, if anyone else finishes 2nd it can be considered a victory. It’s hard when you have to live up to yourself from 10 years ago! Most people in their early to mid 30′s can get a small glimpse of what Tiger is going through by finding a picture of when you were 22 and now looking at your self in the mirror…it’s hard to grow old, imagine if you were one of the world’s most recognizable and greatest golfers who no longer is the same player he once was. Don’t feel sorry for Tiger but try to put his downfall (2 wins in 2012) in perspective with your life.
