It’s Master’s week. Not a lot more than that needs to be said. I have been sitting here for a while trying to think of something to write, but I am quickly realizing that my words can’t do this tournament justice. Everything about the Master’s is perfect. The course condition? Perfect. The set-up of the course? Perfect. The concession stand prices? Perfect. If you can’t find something to like about the Master’s, I don’t have much faith in you as a human being. As an example, take my grandfather. He wasn’t much of a golf fan. In fact, I doubt he would know Phil Mickelson or Rory McIlroy if they walked into a room wearing name tags. But he did own a landscaping company for 40 years. The Master’s, for him, was appointment viewing. He’d watch every year, amazed at how green everything was. How the flowers were arranged. He loved the attention to detail at Augusta National. “You won’t find a weed anywhere on that property,” he would always say. And he was right. Just as watching the Master’s was a yearly tradition for my grandfather, it is for me too. And millions of other golfers around the world. The tradition. The history. The drama. All of it make this the best golf experience one can find anywhere. I will try to preview the tournament, but this isn’t about me. Find something you love about this tournament. Share it with your kids and grandkids. Remember the truly special moments because that’s what this week is all about. Tournament: Master’s Tournament Location: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, GA Dates: 4/11/13 – 4/14/13 Come Sunday night, the 2013 season will be dramatically different for one lucky individual. Wearing a green blazer might be a fashion faux pas in some circles, but in the golfing world, it is the equivalent of nirvana. Don’t believe me? Just look at Bubba Watson, last year’s champion. You can’t ask him about what winning the Master’s means without getting some tears. It is the culmination of a lifelong dream. And it will happen for someone Sunday evening. Now a lot of people think it will happen to someone for a 5th time this weekend. That someone being Tiger Woods. There is definitely good reasoning behind that. Tiger has won three times already this year. Everything is clicking and he absolutely loves Augusta National. HOWEVER, he hasn’t won here since 2005. Can he break through this week? Yes, he certainly can. Do I think he will? No. I think the field is too good and I picked someone else to start the year so I am sticking with it, dammit. When the season started, I pegged Rory McIlroy as Master’s Champion. I guess I need to stick to that, even though I had no idea he would be a mess this year. There is a bright spot though. He came in second last week and may be turning a corner. Other guys to keep an eye on are those that hit is high and far. Keegan Bradley and Dustin Johnson come to mind. Also, you can never count Phil Mickelson out at Augusta. On Tap Recommendation: Want to know one of my favorite parts about the Master’s? The concession stand prices are dirt cheap. In fact, a beer will set you back THREE DOLLARS. Want an import beer? That’s $4. In keeping with that tradition, I will be drinking cheap beer as well. But on Sunday, I may crack open a Brooklyn Brewery Silver Anniversary Lager. Why you may ask? Well someone gave it to me and Sunday afternoon at the Master’s seems like a good thing to celebrate. Cheers everyone!
