When Rory McIlroy was a young boy aspiring to someday become the best golfer in the world, Tiger Woods was in a class of his own. Like every other young golfer, McIlroy admired Tiger when he was a teenager. Now 23 years old and one of the top golfers in the world, McIlroy has met a number of famous and powerful people, including the president of the United States. Interestingly enough, he says he was more nervous meeting Tiger than he was when he met Barack Obama. “I think the first time I met Tiger I was a little star struck,” McIlroy said according to Eye on Golf, noting that he was 15 years old when the meeting took place. “I watched him on TV winning majors by 15 and 12 and doing things that no one else could.” “It’s funny, I was talking about this last night. I was more nervous meeting Tiger than I was meeting Barack Obama.” Considering he once went undercover just to get close to Tiger and watch him play, it doesn’t surprise us that McIlroy was star struck. What Exactly Is wrong With Tiger Woods?

When people think of Tiger Woods, they usually think of his 14 major championships, putting on that legendary green jacket, and sinking forty-foot putts as if they were only five feet.  What people most certainly do not think about is Tiger missing cuts in tournaments that should not be an issue at all.  I ask you, what exactly is wrong with Tiger Woods right now?  What can we...

Woods hopes to stick around at Sawgrass

Tiger Woods is about the only person not in a panic about his game. These remain curious times for the guy trying to show he can still dominate golf as he once did. In his last four tournaments, Woods walked off the course in the middle of the final round at Doral with tightness in his left Achilles tendon, won by five shots at Bay Hill for his first PGA Tour title in 30 months...

McIlroy ready for run at Players Championship

Since 1974, only three Europeans have won The Players Championship. Sandy Lyle beat Jeff Sluman in a playoff in 1987. Sergio Garcia also won in a playoff in 2008 over Paul Goydos. And Sweden's Henrik Stenson won by four shots in 2009. Nobody else has scratched: not Nick Faldo; not Luke Donald; not Lee Westwood (all of whom have been ranked No.1 in the world), or Padraig Harrington...

Tiger Woods Delivers the Pinnacle of Tiger Woods Press Conference Quotes

From Tiger Woods' press conference on Tuesday at the Players Championship ... "Well, I think it's a process, and I've said this numerous times, is that you keep building. And there's certain times when, yeah, you make great strides forward, and there's other times where you're going to take a stride or two backwards. It's a process." That...

Prankster Zings Famous Irish Golf Course With Hope of a Rory Visit

There are few golf courses in the world as beautiful as Ballybunion, the pinnacle of Irish golf set off the western side of the island, and there are few golfers as famous as Rory McIlroy, the young Northern Irishman with a major under his belt and potential as long as his soaring drives. So what would happen if the two planned a get together? That was the plan in late April, or...

Yes, This Awesome Tiger Woods PhotoBang Happened

If there’s not already a name for this type of photo, we propose the phrase “photobang.” It’s catchy, funny, and (frankly) pretty f*cking descriptive. We’re not too sure... [[ Read More ]]

Too early for a rivalry, but not to gain fans

(Eds: With AP Photos.) By DOUG FERGUSON AP Golf Writer It didn't take long for Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler to size each other up in a lineup of stars. They were teenagers in the Walker Cup five years ago at Royal County Down in Northern Ireland. The Americans were so loaded that year that eight players from the 10-man team have made it to the PGA Tour and five of them already...

The Good Old Days, When Tiger Wasn’t Awful

I feel like an old man every time I talk about Tiger Woods, saying things like, “In my day, that Tiger Woods fellow used to hit the ball 400 yards with a six-iron.” Ah,but  this picture does invoke memories of a happier time doesn’t it? A couple of dogs, a Swedish wife, 1.8 kids, not to mention the No. 1 ranking in the world of golf. Unfortunately, in today’s world, Tiger...

Reactions to Reactions: Tiger Woods Edition

This week, the World Golf Hall of Fame inducted five new members, including Peter Alliss and Dan Jenkins while the Champions Tour hosted a Legends Tournament featuring, among others, Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer and Lee Trevino.  These items are varying degrees of interesting, based on your golf leanings, but what raised eyebrows was not the participation in these events, [...]
