Tiger Woods didn’t even say anything negative about the Royal Lytham course he’ll be playing at this week’s British Open, but that didn’t stop the tabloids from taking things he said out of context and vilifying Tiger.
Here’s what Tiger actually said:
“Oh, my God,” Woods said when asked about the rough. “It’s just that you can’t get out of it. The bottom 6 inches is so lush. The wispy stuff, we’ve always faced that at every British Open.
”But that bottom 6 inches, in some places it’s almost unplayable.”
Nothing wrong there, right? Well The Daily Mirror, The Times of London, The Daily Mail and the Daily Star all wrote headlines/stories about how Tiger was calling the course unplayable and “damning the course” and what not. I get having a little fun with Tiger when he’s having Ambien-fueled sex with waitresses from the local diner, but I don’t get getting all over him for giving a candid description of how he thinks the course will play this week.
