Sunday at the 2012 U.S. Open started with 2 players in red numbers, Jim Furyk and Graeme McDowell, but ended with 0 players in the red and Webb Simpson as the winner at 1-over. Simpson shot back-to–back 68′s on Saturday and Sunday to put him in the clubhouse as the leader as he waited for Furyk, McDowell and the rest of the field to finish behind him. McDowell had a birdie put on 18 that would have forced a playoff, but he left the put a couple inches left of the hole. Furyk had a tough back-9, bogeying 3 of his last 6 holes as he finished 2 behind Simpson at 3-over. The Olympic Club in San Francisco proved to be as tough as advertised and made for a thrilling finish. For Simpson, the Open was his 1st major win and his 3rd PGA Tour win.
