IndyCar Media Site INDIANAPOLIS- It was looking like Davey Hamilton was going to just focus on the radio side of things for the upcoming IndyCar Series season. Hamilton, is a radio analyst for the IMS Radio Network and was also a partner with Schmidt/Peterson Motorsports over the last two years. His name though wasn’t a part of the 2014 team as the primary sponsor HP left, but Hamilton and SPM announced today they have decided to rejoin each other for another season. Hamilton, will be a part owner for the No. 77 entry for Simon Pagenaud. He joined Sam Schmidt Motorsports in 2012 and the two teamed to bring up Pagenaud along. They have had a ton of success with the Frenchman as they were championship contenders last year and coming home victorious twice. They were the owners on the car in 2012 when Pagenaud finished fifth in the series championship and won the SUNOCO Rookie of the Year honors. In 2013, Schmidt also added Ric Peterson as he came on board to be the equity owner. His funding allowed the organization to expand to a two-car team last year with rookie Tristian Vautier being behind the wheel of the No. 55 SPM Honda. Vautier isn’t back with the team this year, but rookie Mikhail Aleshin will take his spot as the Russian will drive the No. 7 Honda for the team in 2014. Schmidt and Hamilton’s relationship goes all the way back to 1997 when the two competed against each other in the series as drivers. In 2001, Hamilton drove for Schmidt but had that famous scary crash in June of that year at Texas which nearly put the Boise, Idaho native out of racing. Now, the two sides will team up for a third consecutive season and have title hopes on their mind. Eric Smith is the Lead Motorsports Writer for Race Review Online.
