Most people think the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the most successful track for Team Penske in the Izod IndyCar Series. As much as that sounds right, they’re actually stronger at Barber Motorsports Park. Although in comparasion there’s been more years at Indy but in the first three years at the 2.3-mile track just outside of Birmingham, Alabama his drivers have swept the weekend in all three. Will Power has won the last two Honda Indy Grand Prix of Alabama’s and won the first two pole awards there. His teammate Helio Castroneves won the inaugural race around the 16-turn track in 2009 and is the defending pole winner. That’s three races, three pole winners and three race winners in the history of this race. It doesn’t get any more perfect than that. This weekend, Penske will once again bring three cars to the track and try to keep the streak alive with A.J. Allmendinger joining Power and Castroneves, attempting to keep it perfect for the Captain at Barber. If the test session back in March is any indication, they should be very strong and have the best odds at winning there on Sunday and sweeping the weekend for the fourth straight year. The top two speeds of the test were by Power and Castroneves as they both were among the 27 drivers to break the previous record set by Power last year. Allmendinger also was pretty strong as he was in the top 15. It was also his first time in an IndyCar in almost a decade so it took him some time to get used to it. With Power being very fast and winning the pole last race in St. Pete it’s a safe bet they trio will be tough to beat this weekend.
