If there’s anyone to pick from this weekend’s Honda Grand Prix of St. Pete, it would be one of the two Team Penske drivers. Will Power and Helio Castroneves should enter as the favorites after their showing in last week’s Izod IndyCar Series test at Barber Motorsports Park. Both were in the top five of every session and quick from the onset of unloading off the truck. But many will overlook the success Penske’s had at St. Pete. Out of the eight races around the 1.8-mile, 14-turn street course, a Penske driver won five of them including three of the last four and five of the last seven. What makes them good is it’s not like one of the drivers in the stable is dominating and winning all of them. Yes, Castroneves had three win in total there which is a track record, but out of the last three wins for Penske each of their three drivers won the race. Ryan Briscoe won in 2009, Power in 2011 and Castroneves last year. The three-time Indianapolis 500 champion also won back in 2006 and 2007 as well. The 110-Lap race will surely be close as this is the second year in the new DW12 model and the speeds were fast and close in the test last week. Obviously, it’s good to start the year off on the right foot and if there’s anyone to pick you couldn’t go wrong with either of the Penske duo. After the way the past few years have ended, you can bet Penske is determined to get one of his drivers the overall title this season.
