It’s been a rough season for Australian Will Power. He’s qualified well, but has been taken out of races through situations out of his control. On Friday though he earned his second Verizon P1 Pole Award of the season with a two-lap average of 219.182 mph in the No. 12 Verizon Wireless Team Penske Chevrolet. The pole gives Power his sixth top 10 start at the 1.5-mile Texas Motor Speedway in six races. Typically Power isn’t strong on ovals as it can pretty much be blamed for him not winning multiple titles by now. He is strong though at Texas as he has finishes of third, first, and eighth in the past three races there. Joining Power on the front row is Andretti Autosport’s Marco Andretti. The third generation driver had the car to beat as he was quickest in the practice session this afternoon but didn’t have the speed compared to Power. Andretti’s two-lap average was 217.553 mph in the No. 25 RC Cola Chevrolet as he will try and break the points lead tie with Helio Castroneves leaving Texas tomorrow night. Andretti Autosport would put two more cars in the top five with defending series champion Ryan Hunter-Reay third at 217.524 mph and E.J. Viso fifth at 217.244 mph. For Hunter-Reay it will be his eighth straight top 10 IndyCar start dating to the first race this season at St. Pete and for Viso it’s his fifth straight top five start. Both are series highs. Dario Franchitti rounded out the top five today with an average of 217.504 mph which was good enough for fourth. He will join Hunter-Reay in Row 2. Tomorrow’s race can be seen live on ABC in primetime at 8PM ET.
