Well, the first hot commodity is off the market – Matt Garza is property of the Texas Rangers, at least for the rest of this season. Garza was sent to Texas in exchange for P Justin Grimm, IF Mike Olt, P C.J. Edwards and either 1 or 2 players to be named later. His trade to the Rangers should only be the first of many moves over the next week and a half.More teams feel that they are in the playoff hunt thanks to the additional wildcard spot in both leagues. Here are 10 names that have been rumored to be changing zip codes as well as the impact such moves would make on both teams.Note: All stats as of Monday, July 22.10. Kevin Gregg, RP, CHCGregg has been one of the top names linked to teams needing bullpen help come the trade deadline. He can certainly help teams like the Tigers and Diamondbacks, and his departure opens the door for guys like James Russell (if he isn’t traded) or June call-up Blake Parker to assume the closer’s job for the Cubs. Keep both on your radar if you are looking for saves.9. Justin Morneau, 1B, MINThe former MVP is a free agent after this season and isn’t going to be paid as such anymore. He could go to the Pirates or Rays, but I’m thinking he’s headed to the Yankees due to their need for offense. He’ll at least provide some assurance at 1B because Lyle Overbay isn’t the answer. If Morneau is traded, then either Ryan Doumit or Joe Mauer could split time between catcher and 1B or Chris Colabello could get some time there.8. Glen Perkins, RP, MINPerkins could be a great bullpen option for teams looking for some, pardon the pun, relief. He’s due $7.5 million guaranteed (2014-15) and a has a $4.5 million team option in 2016 with a $300,000 buyout. Any team can use an extra reliever, and if he is dealt, Jared Burton could take over the closer’s job in Minnesota. He’s done it before and he’s cheaper. Burton could also be the one dealt instead, however.7. Michael Young, 3B, PHIYoung is also a free agent after this season and can add a veteran presence to any clubhouse and the ability to man almost all infield spots. He’s not the productive player he was 5 years ago, but he’s currently hitting above .280 with 7 HR and 31 RBI. If he goes to the Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox, Indians or another team in need, then it opens up the Phillies to pursue younger options at 3B next year.6. Chase Headley, 3B, SDIf the Padres really wanted to cash in on Headley’s fine 2012, then they should have traded him prior to this season. He has been linked to the Yankees, and he can help any team in need of an upgrade at 3B. If you are currently starting Luis Cruz at 3B, you qualify as needing an upgrade at 3B. If he is dealt, the Padres can fill his spot with anyone from a group of Jedd Gyorko, Yonder Alonso, Alexi Amarista, or Jesus Guzman.5. Francisco Rodriguez, RP, MILThe Red Sox sent a scout to watch Rodriguez over the weekend, and teams like the Tigers and Diamondbacks could also be interested in the revitalized closer. He was hard-pressed to even get a contract coming into this season, so he could be a slight bargain for this year. If he’s dealt, any combo of Jim Henderson, Michael Gonzalez or John Axford could handle setup/closer’s role.4. Alex Rios, OF, CHWRios has one year left and $12.5 million guaranteed (2014) as well as a $13.5 million team option for 2015. With that much cash left on his contract, it’s hard to see a small-market team like the Pirates, who could use him, trade for Rios. A team like the Rangers could use him and handle his contract. Casper Wells would likely get most of the playing time if Rios is traded.3. Kendrys Morales/Mike Morse, 1B/DH, SEAMorales is still cracking homers even after his horrific, yet hysterical, celebration injury a few years ago. On the year, he has 14 HR, 55 RBI and he’s hit .280 with 45 R. Teams in need of a power bat (the Yankees, Rays, Pirates, Nationals, Rangers, Indians, or Giants) could be in the running for his services, and since he’s (Morales) a free agent after this year, he’ll be looking to cash in. Whomever departs will leave 1B/DH duties to the other as well as Justin Smoak and 75-year-old Raul Ibanez.2. Bud Norris, SP, HOUNorris has been stuck in purgatory for most of his career as an Astro. There were articles written prior to the season regarding how historically bad they could be. A trade of Norris should net the Astros a few decent prospects, and potentially his eventual rotation replacement. Jarred Cosart will likely stay in the big-leagues and given the rest of the season to show what he can/cannot do. He’s been linked to the Giants, Rangers, and Red Sox,1. Jake Peavy, SP, CHWThe White Sox are in sell-off mode after currently sitting in last place in the AL Central. Peavy could be a huge add for a team like the Orioles, Indians, Giants, or Red Sox. He has one year, $14.5 million guaranteed (2014) and a $15 million player option for 2015, so a bigger market team would be more likely to pay up for his services. If he’s dealt, Dylan Axelrod will likely rejoin the rotation.
