The Arizona Diamondbacks called up starting pitcher Trevor Bauer from the minor leagues, but I don’t see him as a must-add in mixed league formats. Bauer lasted just four innings in his first start against the Atlanta Braves, allowing five hits and walking three while throwing 74 pitches. Bauer struggled with his control in the minor leagues with 48 walks in 93 innings and that figures to be a problem in the major leagues as well when he faces more disciplined hitters.

Here is a look at some other players that might be out on the waiver wire in your fantasy baseball league in week 13 to consider adding with your FAAB budget or waiver claim.

American League Only:

SP – Dylan Axelrod (CWS) – Axelrod has been serviceable in 20 major league innings so far with a 4.50 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP. He had a good showing in his last start against the New York Yankees, allowing two runs in seven innings with four strikeouts.
At Triple-A, Axelrod sported a 3.18 ERA in 68 innings with 66 strikeouts with only 18 walks allowed.

SP – A.J. Griffin (OAK) – recently called up from Triple-A, Griffin allowed two runs in six innings with one walk and four strikeouts. Griffin pitched at Double-A and Triple-A, posting a 2.66 ERA in 94 2/3 innings with 84 strikeouts while holding hitters to a .208 batting average against. What makes him intriguing is his exceptinal control with only 14 walks allowed which help to post him a sub 1.00 WHIP in the minor leagues this year.

SP – Zach McAllister (CLE) – called up to replace Jeanmar Gomez, McAllister who was up earlier in the season, allowed two runs in 5 2/3 innings with six strikeouts yesterday against the Baltimore Orioles in picking up his second win of the season. McAllister posted a 2.98 ERA in Triple-A with 52 strikeouts in 63 1/3 innings with a .251 batting average against.

SP – Travis Blackley (OAK) – his overall numbers look good with a 3.05 ERA and a 1.02 WHIP, but he has buitl up some stats on some of the weaker offenses in major league baseball. The real test will come when he faces the Texas Rangers again or the Los Angeles Angels.

National League Only:

RP – Bobby Parnell (NYM) – temporarily taking over as closer for the injured Frank Francisco, Parnell picked up his first save of the season last night working a scoreless inning agaisnt the Los Angeles Dodgers. For the season, Parnell has a 3.09 ERA and 1.28 WHIP and could provide a few saves in the short term, but his ratios have tended to run high in past seasons so be aware of the impact he could have negatively in two categories.

1B - Jim Thome (PHI) – if you are forward thinking and believe the rumors of Thome getting dealt to the American League and your league allows you to keep N.L. only players when they move to the American League in season, then this could be a savvy pickup. Thome is hitting .242, but he has showed he still can hit the long ball with five home runs in 62 at bats.
