Beating Seattle

Playing Seattle is tough enough, but I started coming down with something and the trainers think it might be strep throat. I really felt it coming on last night and started getting pumped up with fluids, mostly Gatorade, all last night and today. The trainers definitely get an assist for getting me ready to play.

It was a big game and I was thrilled to get the ball. Scioscia gave me the ball on opening day and I've been taking my turn every fifth day. I'm thankful that my spot came up tonight and that I was able to set the tone.

The key for me tonight was overcoming the feelings of being sick and getting into a groove. The two-seamer was working well tonight and the early runs let me settle in and maintain the lead. But as big as tonight was tomorrow is even bigger, especially this time of year. We need to keep it going and keep fighting.

great game tonight. you made it look easy, almost like you were bored out there, but that's probably because you're sick. keep it up!

LACK!! you a BAD MAN!! awesome game, I love watching you compete because of your intensity. I am a little surprised you went the whole game because of your condition, but watching your career, i know you like finishing games. Keep on feeding them the inside heat! BIG BAD JOHN ! YEAH

just read about the fact that you have been feeling sick, etc. Hopefully with some rest and medicine you'll be fine in a few days. Great outing today. You had everything going. You haven't allowed a run to the M's the entire season in 24 IP. Now thats what you call shutting a team down. You started the series off about the best way possible.

JL, What a gem you tossed at Seattle. That was a huge game and a major statement maker. You must love throwing complete games huh?

General Zod from Superman? Nice! Anyway, it was a huge game to set the tone the series. Nobody appreciates the complete game more than the bullpen.

That was a great game last night. Let's hope that Ervin can find his old stuff tonight and continue the Mariners' slide.

That was beautiful. Congrats on the win. Good on ya not giving up any walks and keeping Ichiro on his toes and off the bases. I'd say have a beer but since you're sick, you best save that for another time.

Good luck tomorrow.
Feel better.

Ichiro is so crucial to their success. Keeping him off the basepaths is always a challenge. What a player he is.

Way to go, John. That was a true ace performance, very

I'm not sure why my entire comment didn't show up, but I simply described your performance as very pantheresque. Now, stay away from your teammates so you don't get them sick, too! Keep up the good work.

Awesome job today! Get some rest and when you get back take some shots at the goat. It will cure anything.

Rest is exactly what the doctor ordered...thanks for reading the blog.

Nice job today John! Hope that you feel better.

Congratulations on a terrific game at a time the Angels really needed it.

The two seamer WAS awesome last night! Fun to watch Lack. congrats.

Fantastic performance keep up the Scoreless streak versus Seattle

Gatorade, right. I bet we can't get the Gatorade you get Mr. Lackey.

That was a big victory for you though, and it definitely makes up for the loss against Boston last week.

John - Wow - you pitched an awesome game - Congratulations. You are so on your game, watching you, I wouild not have guessed you weren't feeling well. Have a Quick Recovery and .......keep hitting the Gatorade ;)

Killer outing Lackey, you always seem to bring in these big games. Getting number 16 against those guys was awesome. I still can't believe you worked a complete game shutout while being sick. Must've had the snot ball in full effect. haha
Take it easy and get well man.

Every game this time of year is critical, especially against a division rival. I love getting the chance to pitch in big games.

John Lackey=Cy Young Award Winner

Keep up your game and your intensity John and you should have Cy Young Award #1 this year.

Let's mow the M's down this week!!!

Go Halos

I'm going to the game up here in Seattle tonight. Hopefully Ervin Santana was taking notes last night from your performance, we need a strong start by him tonight.

In agreement with everyone else here on your outing last night. You were showing some CY Young brilliance out there John.

Great job John....... I hope you feel better......

Ohh I totally forgot... How is Casey and mike? I hope they both get better soon.... The Race is close and this is the time of the year where its really fun to watch...

Casey is ready to go and Napoli had a good session with the trainers today (sprints) and isn't too far away.

Hey John, just wanted to pass along this article one of our writer's @ Angelswin.com did re- you and the 'CY Young Award' possibilty. http://angelswinblog.blogspot.com/

Best of luck and health to you John!

Go Angels!!

You got a fever ... so that's the key to a full game shutout :) Very sorry you're not 100% off the field, but you were sure 150% on last night ... confident, efficient, pinpoint. Maybe you just wanted to finish it and get back to the room? :) Congrats on a great outing! Rest up for next week, aka #17!

thanks for the compliments. I'll be ready to go this weekend.

Awesome job! Strep throat sucks- I've had it many times. Hope you're feeling better:)

thanks , I actually started feeling better the next morning.

hey big john i am a season seat holder since 1999 and i have one small question how come nobody is signing autographs in the third base line before the games anymore it was cool to see all those kids lining up to see their favorite's teams stars... i you remember it was crazy down there everyone was signing... i really respect the way you play thats why i have you in my fantasy team also... also i hope that yankees make the playoffs cause we completely own em :)

Most of our guys try to get out and sign before the game. Of course they can't be there every game but if you are there a half-hour or so before the game, you should be able to get some autographs down the third base line.

Strep throat is certainly not fun. I got it 3 times within 4 weeks in June, and ended up having my tonsils taken out. Stay on anti-biotics, John! Trust me, you don't want to go through a tonsillectomy! :)

Hey, John. Yankees' fan here :-D! You mentioned that your 2-seamer was working well today. I'm a HS pitcher, and this summer, I've been working on adding movement to my fastball with a 2-seamer. How exactly do you do it? I've been told to tilt my wrist almost 90 degrees to the right (I'm a righty) and then follow through with my thumb down. How do you do it, any tips? Thanks.
Btw, even though I'm a Yankee fan I definitely have a great deal of respect for you. You really seem to rise to the occassion against my Yankees but hey, that's what the great ones do!

What you have been told is pretty correct. It really is about getting a good feel for the two-seamer and then being consistent with location and release point.

Great game BJ, Abilene is proud!

and I'm proud to represent good 'ol Abilene!

I have to tell you - that was a great game to watch! Looking forward to tonight's game. Go get 'em!
