The eyes of many Bostonians were trained on TD Garden on Wednesday, but the Red Sox took the field that night, as well. Starter Alfredo Aceves tossed five scoreless innings against the Indians before running into some trouble in the sixth — allowing homers to both Jason Giambi and Carlos Santana in the frame — but the Sox, who had built a 5-0 lead entering the bottom of the sixth, held off the late Cleveland charge to leave Progressive Field with a 6-3 victory. It was Aceves’ first win in two starts this season, and the tired right-hander discussed his outing with the media after the game before calling it a night. See what he had to say in the video above.

Aceves picks up first win as Red Sox beat Indians

Alfredo Aceves picked up his first win of the season while filling in for an injuried John Lackey. It was the second start of the year for Aceves who went five innings allowing three runs. He held the Indians scorelss for the first five innings of the game but allowed three to start the sixth before manager John Farrell pulled him. If Lackey is to miss his next start the Red Sox...

Louisville, Vanderbilt Both Plan to Wear Special Uniforms to Honor Boston Marathon, First Responders (Photo)

The Red Sox, Bruins, Celtics and eventually Patriots will all find ways to remember the 2013 Boston Marathon in coming days. But as the Chicago Tribune sports section showed so well Tuesday morning, fans and sports teams honoring the heroes and victims of Marathon Monday aren’t limited to Boston. The Louisville and Vanderbilt baseball teams both tweeted Tuesday afternoon that they...

Jon Lester’s Return to Form, Daniel Nava’s Help Filling In for David Ortiz Among Biggest Red Sox Surprises So Far (Video)

The Red Sox weren’t expected by experts to be very good in 2013. That hasn’t stopped them in jumping out to a 10-4 start and grabbing first place in the American League East. With the team exceeding expectations 14 games into the young season, NESN Nation’s Dan Duquette asked our Twitter followers what they think is the most surprising thing about the Sox this year. Check out...

Red Sox’ Strong Bullpen Enables Team to Grind Out Wins, Which Was Needed in Victory Over Indians

The game was slowly slipping away from the Red Sox. Alfredo Aceves had just given up back-to-back home runs, and the Indians, who once looked down and out, were on the verge of seizing control. Enter the Red Sox’ bullpen. With the game hanging in the balance, Junichi Tazawa came on in relief and retired three straight hitters in the sixth inning, keeping the Red Sox’ lead intact...

What to make of Mike Carp's big night at plate for Red Sox

After riding the bench the first two weeks of the season, Mike Carp was inserted into the starting lineup for first time on Wednesday night in Cleveland and didn’t disappoint. In three at bats he got on base all three times via three extra base hits including two doubles and an RBI triple. It was the first time in his career that he had two doubles in a game. Despite having...

David Ortiz was ‘very angry’ over Boston Marathon terrorist attack

David Ortiz is a Boston icon. Needless to say, the Red Sox superstar was dumbfounded and angered by the Boston Marathon bombings.

Starting Pitching Remains Key to Red Sox’ Continuing Success After Hot Start to Season (Video)

What’s the key to having a good season in the major leagues? Pitching, pitching and more pitching. The Red Sox are off to their best start in years, and when compared to last year’s squad, the 2013 Sox are light years ahead of where they were in the standings. As far as the offense is concerned, however, they’re surprisingly close. It’s the starting pitching that’s been...

CLEVELAND (AP) -- Jon Lester pitched seven strong innings, Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a tiebreaking home run in the fourth and the Boston Red Sox got their sixth straight win with a 6-3 victory over the Cleveland Indians on Thursday. Wednesday's Open House at Fenway Park Postponed

In light of the tragic events that befell our community yesterday, the Boston Red Sox will postpone tomorrow's Open House at Fenway Park. The free event was to provide an opportunity during school vacation week for families and children to wander the concourses, see displays, and stroll on the warning track.  It will be rescheduled for later this season. "We all personally...

Kevin Youkilis Says Hearing of Boston Marathon Tragedy ‘Ate Me Up’

Teams across Major League Baseball showed their support for Boston on Tuesday night with thoughtful gestures. But for a few members of opposing teams, the somber moments weren’t just for the Red Sox and their fans — they also helped those who once played in Boston and still hold the city close to their hearts. Indians manager Terry Francona and Yankees third baseman Kevin Youkilis...

On this day after the horrific bombings at the Boston Marathon, let us give you a taste of some of the writing from the city and from elsewhere. Let's provide a sample of what has been said about Monday's tragedy. Boston Globe columnist Kevin Cullen writes that a perfect day was ruined by a coward. Dan Shaughnessy of the Globe says the Marathon will never be the same...

Afternoon Red Sox Delight - 4/17

After winning last night, the Boston Red Sox look to continue their winning streak tonight in the second game of a three-game set with the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field in Cleveland, OH. My prediction is the Red Sox win this game 6-4. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. If you live in the Red Sox television market you can catch the game on NESN. If you live in...
