Draft: Selected by the San Diego Padres in the 1st round (5th overall) of the 1978 June Amateur Draft

MLB Debut: 7/17/82 (San Diego Padres)

Seasons in San Diego: 1982-1988

Left: 12/8/88 - Signed as a Free Agent with the New York Yankees

Career Stats: Major League & Minor League

Known for: After putting up rather medicore numbers in the minors (4.27 ERA, 392 BB/458 K), Andy Hawkins burst onto the scene with the Padres in 1982. He had his ups and downs during his tenure in San Diego but overall was worth +5.3 WAR in his 7 seasons here. A member of the 1984 National League Championship team, Hawkins earned the Win in Game 2 of the World Series. To this day he is the only Padre to ever record a win in the World Series. 1985 was his finest season as a pro going 18-8 with a 3.15 ERA. In 1990, while with the New York Yankees, Hawkins pitched a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox yet lost. After cruising into the 8th, a throwing error by the third baseman, 2 walks and a left field playing Jim Leyritz bases clearing error, quickly ran up the score to 3-0. After another error, the White Sox held a 4-0 lead which the Yankees would not come back from. He ranks 7th on the Padres all-time wins (60) list and 8th in complete games (19). Today Hawkins currently resides as the bullpen coach for the Texas Rangers, a position he's held since 2008.
