The Los Angeles Angels have signed relief pitcher Joe Smith to a three-year deal. Smith, 29, is expected to serve in a set-up role to closer Ernesto Frieri. Should Frieri struggle the right handed Smith would appear to be the first option to take over ninth inning duties. The ever durable Smith has appeared in 70 plus games in each of the last three seasons. He finished the 2013 season with a 2.29 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and collected the first three saves of his career. #Angels officially agree to terms with RHP Joe Smith – Welcome to the Halos Mr. Smith! — Los Angeles Angels (@Angels) November 28, 2013 In order to make room for Smith the Angels designated J.C. Angels designate Juan Gutierrez for assignment

The Angels announced that they have designated right-hander Juan Gutierrez for assignment.  The move will create space on the 40-man for newly acquired Joe Smith. Gutierrez, 30, began the year with Kansas City before being plucked off waivers by the Halos.  The reliever pitched a 3.38 ERA in KC but his ERA rises to 5.19 in 28 games for the Angels. For his career, the veteran...

The Los Angeles Angels Should Consider A Scott Kazmir Reunion

The Los Angeles Angels have been busy early this offseason. They addressed their need for a third baseman by acquiring David Freese, and signed reliever Joe Smith to a three-year deal worth $15.75MM. However their biggest need still remains starting pitching. Jered Weaver, C.J. Wilson and Garrett Richards are all locked in as starters for next season, leaving two slots open. The...

C.J. Wilson Appears on The Mindy Project

C.J. Wilson is continuing to put together a pretty impressive slash line.  And, no, I'm not talking about his statistics on the baseball field. Sure, the lefty led the Los Angeles Angels in wins this past season, but it's been his extra curriculars that have made him stand out from the crowd.  Imagine this, dude owns a racing team, a car dealership (in suburban Chicago...

Kole Calhoun, David Freese and the Magic .340

Six of the last seven AL Pennant winners have posted a team OBP north of .340. The World Series champion Red Sox (God I hate saying that) were in the middle of the pack among those AL Pennant winners posting a team OBP of .349 in 2013.  .340 just happens to be that magic number.  As a number itself, I’d consider .340 to be an average OBP for a solid player.  Nothing truly special...

“We blame you, meatballs!”

This is going to be a very opinionated article, but that was the first episode of ‘The Mindy Project’ I’ve ever watched, and it was down-right HILARIOUS. The whole story behind the episode was main character, Mindy Lahiri is attending...
