Since taking over as the head coach at Arkansas, Mike Anderson made a splash on the recruiting trail with two verbal commitments from the 2013 class, from strong in-state prospects Bobby Portis and Dederick Lee. While it’s nice to look forward down the road, the Razorbacks will need some pledges in 2012, and have addressed a need with the first verbal commitment in the class, 6″-5″ wing Michael Qualls of Huntington (LA), according to multiple reports. If Arkansas becomes adept at running and pressing system that Anderson employed during his time at Missouri, Qualls could be an intergal piece. He’s considered one of the highest-flyers, and best athletes in the country at his position. He lacks the guard skills to immediately step into the backcourt at Arkansas, but could likely end up utilizing his athleticism as an attacking small forward in a transition-oriented offense.
