Per a report by the L.A. Times, the A’s have been given tentative guidelines by MLB to help facilitate a potential move to San Jose.
However, according to the Times, “[t]he existence of the guidelines does not necessarily mean the A’s will move to San Jose soon, or at all,” which might be the most Bud Selig thing ever.
But! If the A’s can “satisfy the concerns” of the league, Selig may, repeat, may, put the San Jose move to a league vote by the owners, of which the A’s would need 75 percent approval. It all sounds like empty promises a terrible, mean parent makes to their child: “Finish your chores, and we MIGHT go out for ice cream.” Only for the kid to work diligently and then see nothing more than Brussels sprouts to show for it.
It’s not clear as of this moment what any of the guidelines entail. Although, given how much Selig apparently gets off at holding the A’s stadium situation hostage (four years and counting!), it wouldn’t be surprising if the A’s were expected to walk o
