Even after a big game in spring training, Brandon Allen knows he still has work to do. If he wants to stick in the majors, he needs to be more consistent. ''I want to smooth some things out,'' Allen said Sunday after what he called the best Cactus League game of his career. Allen belted a grand slam and drove in seven runs, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Cubs 12-10 to spoil Chicago's spring training opener. A's manager Bob Melvin knows exactly what the team wants to see out of Allen. ''Stay away from deeper slumps,'' Melvin said. ''We want to see him more consistent at the plate.'' None of Allen's damage came against Cubs starter Rodrigo Lopez. He pitched two perfect innings, striking out two. ''I want to do my job and make the team,'' said Lopez, who went 6-6 with a 4.42 ERA for the Cubs last season. ''Playing at Wrigley, it doesn't have any match in baseball.'' New manager Da...

Report: Theo Epstein Wants to Limit Cubs' Partying, Nightlife

Well, it looks like another Major League Baseball team is out to limit alcohol and its effects on performance. As newly crowned Chicago Cubs president, Theo Epstein wants his players to get a good night's rest before each game. After all of the news that came out regarding the Red Sox clubhouse this offseason, it seems only fitting that Epstein would impose some sort of regulation...

The Oakland Athletics

As TSHQ continues our MLB preview for the 2012 season, we find ourselves in the Bay Area: Billy Beane’s Oakland Athletics. Last season, many speculated that the Athletics starting pitching might be enough to propel them into the playoffs. Instead, the A’s finished third behind the Rangers and Angels and Beane shipped off two of his better starters, his closer, and a reliever...

University baseball returns to Thunder Bay after ten years

After ten long years, spring time baseball is finally returning to Lakehead University.  As a new member of the Thunder Bay community I couldn’t be more thrilled to see baseball on campus. Led by former Chicago Cubs farmhand Jason Hart, the school and student body are indeed in for a wild ride.  Hart really is the best man suited to lead this team to a championship.  Five...
