The Other Paper:
A Babe Ruth jersey— the oldest known existing uniform top worn by the New York Yankees legendary slugger— is going on the auction block and is expected to fetch at least $1 million according to experts.
The Bambino's 1920 uniform could even challenge the auction record for one piece of baseball memorabilia, set by the Honus Wagner trading card that went for $2.8 million in 2007, according to the New York Post.
The jersey, once worn by the The Babe when he was just a baseball rookie, is going on the block next month and apparently there is not a mustard stain to be seen.
"We've been in this business for 30 years, and this is simply the finest piece we've ever handled,' said Dan Imler, managing director of SCP Auctions in Laguna Nigel, Calif. "We could be in business for another 30 years and never handle another piece like this."
SCP did not release the jersey's current owner.
The online auction will start on April 30 and conclude on May 19. That gives fans plenty of time to save up and own a piece of baseball history.
The Yankees gray road uniform was worn by The Sultan of Swat during his first season when the Yankees players didn't wear numbers on the uniforms, so the jersey is identified as George Herman Ruth's by the "RUTH G.H." stitched into the inside collar.
The rare uniform has appeared before. It was enclosed inside a glass case at the the Babe Ruth Birthplace Museum in Baltimore between 2004 and 2009.

Bobby Valentine has only been wearing a Boston Red Sox uniform for about two weeks and he's already taking a few jabs at the archrival New York Yankees. Many thought that the outspoken manager's arrival in Boston could add even more spice to one of the most heated rivalries in professional sports, and it hasn't taken long for that to hold true.
