The DH-starved Baltimore Orioles have acquired the powerful Michael Morse from Seattle in exchange for minor league OF Xavier Avery.
Morse, 31, is having a down year in 2013, hitting only .226 with 13 HR and 27 RBI in 307 at-bats. The O’s are banking on him reverting back to his 2011 form, when he hit .303 with 31 dingers for the Washington Nationals. Morse has always been a solid bat up until this season, holding a .284 career average over his 8 years spent in the big leagues.
Avery, the 23 year old speedster that Baltimore gave up, has the potential to be a solid leadoff hitter one day, but it was never going to happen in Baltimore; their outfield is just too crowded. He was hitting .259 between AA Bowie and AAA Norfolk, with 70 runs scored and 35 RBI. He also has recorded 29 steals between the two clubs. Avery hit .229 in limited MLB action in 2012.

So long, Michael
While I’m sure you know I was in favor of trading Michael Morse before the trade deadline, I am still sad to see him go.
In his first tour of duty with the Mariners, Michael was a young, eager shortstop who the M’s pegged to replace the departed Alex Rodriguez who chose to leave Seattle for greener wallets.
Morse was a lanky kid who didn’t have a great bat...

During the course of a 162 game Major League Baseball season, many players, even the greatest, struggle to remain consistent throughout.
As a team, the Baltimore Orioles have seen many inconsistencies during the 2013 season. The Orioles...
Baltimore wasn’t able to come to an agreement with Minnesota for Josh Willingham but the Orioles have added a right-handed power hitter in acquiring Michael Morse from Seattle for Triple-A outfielder Xavier Avery.
Morse unlike Willingham is an impending free agent so the Mariners were perfectly willing to let him go following a very disappointing season. He got off to a big start...
The Baltimore Orioles acquired Mike Morse on Friday afternoon and on Saturday they made room for him on the active roster.
Morse, 31, was acquired in a trade with the Seattle Mariners for minor league outfielder Xavier Avery.

The Baltimore Orioles have acquired outfielder/DH Michael Morse from the Seattle Mariners. In exchange, the Mariners will receive minor-league outfield prospect Morse had one of the worst seasons of his career and did not develop into the player the club hoped it was getting in that three-way trade that brought to Seattle from Washington.
Morse, age 31, is batting .226/.283...
Chris Tillman isn't concerned about his steadily increasing win total or about further establishing himself as the ace of the Orioles staff.
The right-hander knew the victory was more important to his team.
Tillman pitched seven strong innings to earn his 15th victory of the season, and Baltimore beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Thursday night to avoid a three-game sweep. The...
There were only a handful of pitches Miguel Gonzalez wanted back. Too bad for him they added up to a tough loss.
Ichiro Suzuki hit a two-run homer and Robinson Cano singled in two runs during a five-run fifth inning that helped the New York Yankees pick up an ineffective CC Sabathia and beat the Baltimore Orioles 8-5 Friday night.
Alfonso Soriano connected for a two-run shot in...
At the moment, Baltimore Orioles first baseman Chris Davis is the only person standing between Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera and back-to-back American League Triple Crowns. Cabrera’s .357 batting average is a whopping 25 points higher than the next-best in the AL, which is Mike Trout’s .332. Miggy also has 130 RBI, which is 10 […]
Scott Feldman isn't going to get upset. He knows he was outpitched.
Feldman was impressive for seven innings after a rocky first, but Baltimore managed just three hits against Ivan Nova and lost 2-0 to the New York Yankees on Saturday.
''Sometimes the other guy is better and I think that's what happened today,'' Feldman said.
Nova (8-4) outworked Feldman...
The Baltimore Orioles have been claiming players and discussing trades left and right as Sept. 1 has approached. The O's are clearly looking to add a bat, and they remain engaged in trade talks with both the Seattle Mariners and Minnesota Twins involving outfielders Mike Morse and Josh Willingham, according to Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports.

Manny Machado's one-out double in the top of the third inning drove in a pair of runs and helped lift the Orioles to a 3-2 win over the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Boston took two of three in the series.
Jon Lester lacked sharpness, but pitched six innings giving up three runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four.
As we know, the Orioles were looking for a bat and they got it this afternoon. They could not get Josh Willingham from the Twins after putting in a claim, so they got Seattle's Michael Morse
