(Photo credit: Jim Rogash/Getty Images North America) The Baltimore Orioles will play host to the American League East champion Boston Red Sox at Camden Yards, in a final three-game series to close out the 2013 regular season schedule. Though the O’s were eliminated from postseason contention on Tuesday, the Orioles and Red Sox have had some pretty dramatic moments in recent memory. A brawl broke out in a game at Fenway Park in July 2011, that season in September the Orioles would eliminate Boston from playoff contention, Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz smashed a phone in the visiting dugout in July, and just last week the Orioles rallied in the final inning to snap Red Sox closer Koji Uehara ‘s streak of 37-straight batters retired to beat the Sox, 3-2. After securing their second consecutive winning season Wednesday night, the Orioles (83-76) are only playing for pride. Meanwhile, the Red Sox (96-63) are still battling the Oakland Athletics for the best record in the AL. The Red Sox are the only AL East team the Orioles do not have a losing record against in 2013. They are 8-8 against Boston, 4-3 at home. First baseman Chris Davis has already set a team record for home runs in a season with 52 and counting. He is also tied with Miguel Cabrera for the most RBIs in the AL with 137. Against the Red Sox this season, Davis is batting .234 with six homers and 16 RBIs. Davis sat out Thursday’s game due to sore foot and is considered day-to-day. Jim Johnson recorded his 48th save of the season on Thursday. He leads the AL in saves and trails Craig Kimbrel of the Atlanta Braves by one save for the most in the MLB. If Johnson can record two saves in the final series against the Red Sox, he would become the second reliever (Eric Gagne) in MLB history with consecutive 50-save seasons . Probable pitchers (subject to change): The series opens on Friday when Scott Feldman (12-11, 3.51 ERA) will match up against Clay Buchholz (11-1, 1.60 ERA). In his last 10 starts, Feldman has a 3-4 record and a 3.06 ERA — he has held opponents to three runs or fewer in eight consecutive starts.  Buchholz has not pitched against the O’s since Apr. 8, when he lasted seven innings and allowed no runs on three hits, while striking out eight Orioles. In the final night game for the Orioles, two lefties will get the start. For the Orioles, Wei-Yin Chen (7-7, 4.03 ERA) gets the nod. Chen’s last win came back on Aug. 21 against Tampa Bay. Since that start, Chen has made six starts and has allowed 23 runs in 30 innings pitched. The Sox will send Jon Lester (15-8, 3.67 ERA) to the mound. Lester opened his career 14-0 against the O’s, but finally lost on June 16. Since that loss Lester is 1-1 against Baltimore. In his most recent start (Aug. 29) he allowed three runs on five hits in a loss at Fenway Park. The Orioles will wrap up their regular season with Chris Tillman (16-7, 3.62 ERA) opposing John Lackey (10-13, 3.52 ERA). Tillman is seeking to become the first Orioles pitcher to win 17 games in a season since Mike Mussina in 1999. Lackey pitched a complete game against the O’s on Sept. 19 — his no hitter was broken up in the seventh inning on an Adam Jones home run.   Take Our Poll

End of Season Post-Mortem: 2013 Baltimore Orioles

Here we are, folks: the End of Season Post-Mortem series. If you're new here (which about 50% of our reader base is in comparison to last year), here's a brief explanation: after a team is eliminated from playoff contention, we're going to put their season under a microscope and look at just what the hell went wrong, what went right, and so on and so forth. The goal is...

Feldman struggles as Orioles fall 12-3 to Red Sox

Scott Feldman hopes Friday night's rough start won't be his last in a Baltimore Orioles uniform. Feldman allowed eight runs and failed to finish the third inning in the worst of his 15 starts with the Orioles, a 12-3 loss to the Boston Red Sox. ''I hope that they want me back,'' Feldman said. ''I really like the guys in here and the coaching staff...

Gonzalez, Wieters lead Orioles past Blue Jays 3-2

Miguel Gonzalez pitched seven innings of two-hit ball, Matt Wieters homered and drove in two runs, and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 3-2 on Thursday night. Nick Markakis had two hits and an RBI for the Orioles, who won the season series 10-9. Baltimore is 13-5 at Camden Yards against the Blue Jays since the start of the 2012 season. Gonzalez (11-8) allowed one...

Gonzalez dominates for seven, Orioles win 3-2

Miguel Gonzalez heads home to California on Sunday with a big smile on his face. During the season that’s about to end Gonzalez won 11 games and perhaps saved his best for last. On Thursday night Gonzalez threw seven superb innings allowing just two hits and could have gone further if not for two errors behind him. The Orioles’ 3-2 win over the Toronto Blue Jays before 27498...

Orioles' Manny Machado not considering surgery

Baltimore Orioles star third baseman Manny Machado will seek a second opinion on his left knee injury and -- at this point -- does not plan to have surgery during the offseason reports MLB.com's Orioles beat writer Brittany Ghiroli. He expects to rest and rehab in preparation to return to action by Spring Training 2014 as we described on Tuesday. Ghiroli reminds us that the...

Orioles hit 4 HRs in 9-5 win over Blue Jays

A winning season was never an objective for the Baltimore Orioles. Reaching the playoffs was all that mattered. So, after the Orioles beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Wednesday night to clinch a winning record for the second straight year, the players saw absolutely no reason to celebrate the moment. ''We didn't make it to the playoffs. That was our goal,''...

Orioles end losing skid with 9-5 win over Toronto

One day after they were eliminated from the playoff picture the Orioles fielded a starting lineup Wednesday night more fit for late-February than late-September. But an Orioles batting order void of much of its start power managed to record its most productive offensive night in three weeks snapping their season-high six-game losing streak with a 9-5 win over the Toronto Blue Jays...

Papi's seventh 30/100 season puts him in rare company

Move over Ted Williams. Stand aside Cal Ripken Jr. Make way for David Ortiz. With a three-run homer in the eighth inning of the Red Sox’ 12-3 pounding of the Baltimore Orioles last night Ortiz joined Williams as the only players in franchise history to post seven 30-homer 100-RBI seasons. And for good measure the homer was the 431st of Ortiz’ career tying Orioles great Ripken...

Game 160: Red Sox at Orioles - Sox look for home field

Photo courtesy of ESPN Conor Frederick (@ConorJF1016) Contributing Writer The Red Sox open their final series of the season tonight against the Baltimore Orioles with a chance to clinch the best record in the AL and home field advantage. Ironically, they were the team that finished off the Red Sox epic collapse of 2011. No chance of them ruining our playoff hopes this years since...
