PITCHING MATCHUP: Orioles RH Chris Tillman (NR) vs. Mariners RH Hector Noesi (2-10, 5.69)

Matchup | Preview

If they are going to maintain that position they need to take games like this against weak teams like Seattle…alas they dropped the opener 6-3.

This team is probably desperate to get to the All-Star game in reasonable shape so they can take a breath and evaluate where they go next after acquiring slugger Jim Thome.

The O’s are taking a chance by bringing starter Chris Tillman back to the Majors. There is a reason he didn’t break camp with the club but hopefully they aren’t reminded of that against a very weak hitting Seattle club.

It’s not like he was tearing up AAA either, in fact it is a shock that Baltimore is still favoured in this one. Just goes to show how weak a team the Mariners are this season.

HectorNoesi Baltimore Orioles vs. Mariners betting odds and handicapping preview – July 4

Hector Noesi has the 5th worst ERA in the Majors

Seattle is hoping to continue its winning ways against Baltimore after taking the first game of the series Monday night. This team is .500 over its last 10 games which sadly qualifies as a bit of a hot streak.

Still at home, against one of the more awful starting pitchers of recent memory they are not even favoured.

That says a lot about the team and who they are throwing at the visiting O’s.

Among qualified leaders Hector Noesi has the 5th worst ERA in the Majors – and that is even with playing half his games in spacious Safeco Field.

The weird thing is that his WHIP is not nearly as bad so you might argue that he has been victim of some cluster luck (I just love that term ever since I first heard of it).

The challenge is when is he going to break free of it. Now? If so there is nice value there.

O/U Pick: Over
Score Prediction: Seattle 5 – Baltimore 3

Did the Mariners Felix Hernandez get a pity vote to the All Star team?

The lone all star The Lone Ranger spent his life with his trusty steed Silver and his faithful friend Tonto traveling from village to village solving the problems that no one was capable of solving for themselves. I bet there were times when he was riding off into the sunset he would lean over to his travel companion and complain about how lazy people were and how he had to do all...

Gators catcher Mike Zunino signs Mariners $4m bonus

Mike Zunino, the Seattle Mariners 22-year-old catcher from the University of Florida who was the M's first-round draft pick, signed with the club Monday. Zunino recently won the Johnny Bench Award as the best college catcher, plus he was a finalist for the Golden Spikes Award. This is the award given to the best college baseball player. The deal included a reported...

Mariners' Montero getting hit, not hitting

Seattle Mariners catcher Jesus Montero is taking something of a beating this year. And not just at the plate, although he has driven in just one run since June 1, so it could easily be said that AL pitchers are beating up on him. But Montero continues to take foul balls off his catcher's mask, and it's not any fun. It happened again in the top of the fifth inning Wednesday...

Groin Injury Forces Brian Roberts to DL

Baltimore Orioles second baseman Brian Roberts has been placed on the 15-day DL with a groin injury. Roberts, who missed 13 months of action while recovering from multiple concussions, is batting just .182 with five runs batted in and no-home runs in 17 games this season. Roberts became somewhat of a fantasy darling in June as owners anticipated the 12 year veteran to return to his...

Fences aren't cause of Mariners' offensive home woes

When Safeco Field was first put into operation after the All-Star break in 1999, it was immediately evident that it was a pitcher's park and that it was particularly tough on right-handed batters. There has been sporadic talk since then that perhaps things needed to be equalized, possibly by moving the fences in. That talk has heated up this year with the Seattle Mariners...

The Bakke Report – Can The Red Sox Just Trade for Felix Hernandez Already?

Apparently Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe and I are thinking on the same wave length. Well, to be honest this idea has probably been floating around for a lot longer than I had it in my head. This idea you ask? The Red Sox need to trade for Seattle Mariners ace “King” Felix Hernandez. [...]

Halfway Point - Seattle Mariners Work On Solving Safeco

To start off the week, the Mariners faced the Oakland Athletics at home. Nicaraguan Erasmo Ramirez started off the series striking out 10 in Game 1, but sadly he didn’t get the win. The Athletics hit a home run in the 2nd inning, which was the winning run of the ball game. The next outing, a Mariners starter would again strike out 10 (it’s the first time 2 Mariners have gone...

Should Seattle Mariners’ Ace Felix Hernandez Be An All-Star?

Felix Hernandez is an All-Star again and will be traveling to the mid-summer classic in Kansas City next week to perform on a national stage. Hernandez is now a three time All-Star and in his eighth season with the Mariners. King Felix is the obvious choice. He is the face of the organization and is [...]

HOVG Heroes: Jay Buhner

MARIO LANZA on JAY BUHNERFirst thing’s first.  I am a Seattle Mariners fan.  I grew up in the Kingdome, I will always miss the Kingdome, and to my dying day I will always say that the Kingdome was a much better place to watch a game than most people give it credit for.  The Mariners might have sucked in the 80's and most of the 90's, but the Kingdome was fun.However...

Orioles 5, Mariners 4

Robert Andino homered in the ninth off Seattle reliever Charlie Furbush to give the Baltimore Orioles a 5-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Tuesday night after starter Wei-Yin Chen flirted with a perfect game for more than six innings. Andino's home run was his first since May 7 and fourth this season. It ended Furbush's (4-2) streak of 22 2-3 scoreless innings, the third...

Orioles-Angels Preview

Kendrys Morales is surging for the Los Angeles Angels, and he's always hit well against the Baltimore Orioles. The designated hitter just completed a strong road trip as he gets ready for Thursday night's opener of a four-game set against the visiting Orioles. Morales is 13 for 33 during an eight-game hitting streak, batting .400 in seven games on the Angels' 5-4 trip...
