Tyler Colvin welcomed himself to his new home crowd Monday night and threw his hat into the ring to be the everyday left fielder with a splash home run, a triple and three RBIs. On Wednesday, Gregor Blanco joined the race. And when a Giant does something Willie Mays did not accomplish, as Blanco did on a hot afternoon that makes AT&T Park play like a bandbox, manager Bruce Bochy has to pay attention. In a 10-4 victory against the Braves, Blanco stole three bases and scored three runs, which neither Mays nor Barry Bonds had done. Bonds' father, Bobby, was one of three San Francisco Giants to accomplish the feat. Kevin Mitchell and Darren Lewis are the others. Blanco also hit a single for his third RBI of the year. This from a guy who had accomplished next to nothing all season. Before a victory that gave the Giants the season series against Atlanta, five games to one, Blanco had scored twice and stolen one base. On Wednesday, he stole twice in the second inning and scored on catcher Evan Gattis' errant throw. Blanco actually played center field, not left, on a planned day off for Angel Pagan. But Blanco might have insinuated himself into the conversation for left field, which Bochy said he will fill based on performance as long as Michael Morse plays most games at first base for Brandon Belt. Blanco hardly was the only Giant to make an impact on a day the Giants established a season high for runs in a home game and had 15 hits. Hunter Pence's four hits included a home run, his third. Bromance buddy Morse also homered to catch Belt for the team lead, with nine. Brandon Crawford singled, doubled and hit a two-run McCovey Cove homer. Colvin and Pablo Sandoval had two hits apiece. Madison Bumgarner had a tough afternoon. He lasted five innings and matched the most extra-base hits he has allowed in any game at five. But he stuck around long enough to win his fourth consecutive game, and fourth straight against the Braves, who more or less were his hometown team in North Carolina.
