Edwin Encarnacion hit two home runs in one inning, including his sixth career grand slam, Jose Reyes, Adam Lind and Brett Lawrie also went deep and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Houston Astros 12-6 on Friday night. Encarnacion became the first Blue Jays player in nearly 20 years to homer twice in the same inning when he accomplished the feat in the seventh against Paul Clemens (4-4) and Hector Ambriz. For Encarnacion, the home runs were his 27th and 28th of the season, the third-most in baseball behind Chris Davis and Miguel Cabrera. Colby Rasmus had four hits and Reyes three as the Blue Jays won consecutive games for the first time since their franchise-record tying 11-game winning streak ended on June 24. Toronto had gone 8-19 since. Brett Cecil (4-1) pitched two thirds of an inning for the win, handing the Astros their 21st loss in 26 games.

Blue Jays’ Diamond in the Rough: Edwin Encarnacion

Nathan Denette- Canadian Press In spite of an impending failure of a season, Toronto Blue Jays have a hitter in Edwin Encarnacion that continues to get better as the season progresses–possibly to the point of being an AL MVP candidate. Nine games under .500, the Jays are tangled at the bottom of the American League East. Unless they can dominate in the month of August, it looks...

Rangers Rumors: Texas scouting Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion

The Rangers are looking at big name players to fill their offense. They have shown interest in Alex Rios, Hunter Pence, Kendrys Morales, Marlon Byrd, Chris Denorfia and Giancarlo Stanton. The Ranges are very serious about upgrading their offense. That list above just got bigger, as more names have been reported. The Rangers are scouting Blue Jays outfielder Jose Bautista and...

Encarnacion, Blue Jays outslug Houston Astros 12-6

“Homers win” Blue Jays manager John Gibbons used to say back in spring training when the prospect of the upcoming season was all sunshine and optimism. His team proved him right on this night at least. Edwin Encarnacion became the first Blue Jay since Joe Carter to hit two home runs in the same inning as the Jays slugged their way out of trouble against the Houston Astros on...

Brett Lawrie Has a New Hangout Spot

Photo Credit: Keith Allison Brett Lawrie is a heartbreaker. The other night I came across Stephen King’s wisdom on opening lines.  Written above, in italic, is my opening line.  It’s simple, to the point, and for most of Lawrie’s fantasy baseball career, emphatically true.  I applied this same line when I wrote about him earlier this season.  King would say this opener...

Blue Jays' Brandon Morrow could be done for the season

Brandon Morrow entered the season laden with high expectations considering his strong 2012 campaign. When he has pitched this year, he hasn't been productive, and he's missed a majority of the season due to lingering inflammation in his forearm. While the injury was initially thought to be minor, general manager Alex Anthopoulos isn't sure when, or if, Morrow will be...

MLB Friday Funnies: GIF of the Day

Colby Rasmus blows Janssen’s save  I don’t know much about Blue Jays outfielder Colby Rasmus.  I know that he didn’t get along well with Tony La Russa when he was in St. Louis and I know that he has brothers that play baseball too.  He seems to play adequate defense and his 20+ home run potential makes up for his barely-above-the-Mendoza-line batting average.  I’m sure...

Blue Jays 4, Astros 0

Mark Buehrle pitched a two-hitter and the Toronto Blue Jays ended a season-worst seven-game losing streak, beating the Houston Astros 4-0 Thursday night. The last-place Blue Jays had been 0-6 since the All-Star break, swept in consecutive series by Tampa Bay and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Toronto had dropped 14 of 18 overall. Things were easier for Toronto against the Astros, who...

Jays’ Mark Buehrle shuts down Astros

Mark Buehrle was in a hurry on Thursday night. The fastest working pitcher in baseball had tickets to see country singer Tim McGraw at the Molson Amphitheatre and he wasn’t about to wait around for his post-game interview with reporters. So he crashed his manager’s instead. “Grandparents are here to watch the kids so let’s go” Buehrle said drumming his fingers on the...

Encarnacion belts two homers in same inning, including grand slam (VIDEO)

Edwin Encarncaion had a game he will never forget on Friday night and made Toronto Blue Jays history when the All-Star became only the second player in their almost 37 year existence to hit two home runs in the same inning.  Joe Carter was the first Jay to turn the trick in their regular season finale against the Baltimore Orioles back on October 3, 1993. ...

Ethier’s Voo Doo Magic Hop Sinks Blue Jays’ Momentum. Dodgers 8, Blue Jays 3 (10 innings)

Down to his last strike in the top of the ninth, Andre Ethier worked some serious black voo doo magic on Wednesday night in Toronto. Colby Rasmus watches as the ball takes a hop, hits the top of his glove, and continues spinning behind him. The misplay allowed Yasiel Puig to score from first and tie the game at 3. (Image source:
