Victorino delivers the decisive blow in World Series Game 6Credit: USA Today/Robert Deutsch The Boston Red Sox went worst to first, that being first in all of baseball by virtue of a 6-1 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals in Game 6 of the 2013 World Series on Wednesday night.  A key 2 out, 3-run triple by Red Sox RF Shane Victorino in the 3rd inning opened the scoring for the Red Sox and they never looked back.  Victorino missed Games 4 and 5 with a balky back.  Ironically, his replacement in Game 4 Johnny Gomes delivered the decisive 3-run home run blow in that 4-2 victory.  It’s as if manager John Farrell could do no wrong.  It’s the Red Sox third title in 10 years, having won in 2004 and 2007. This is the first Red Sox World Series clinching victory at home in some 95 years, as their previous two titles were won in Games 4 on the road in clean sweeps. 1B/DH David Ortiz was named the World Series MVP, going 11-16 (.688) and reached base in 9 straight plate appearances, tying a World Series record.  In Game 6, he was walked four times as the Cardinals were tired of dealing with his bat. The Red Sox finished in 5th place at 69-93 in 2012, trading away high paid talent for youth and even just salary relief, bringing in key economical free agents like Shane Victorino, Mike Napoli, and Stephen Drew. Shane Victorino is ready for game 6

But, do we want him to be? Sure, Shane came up huge with that grand slam in the ALCS, but it has been torture watching him at the plate. Before Victorino hit that grand slam against the Tigers, I had written that AB off, along with every other Sox fan. No matter how any of us feel, he is ready to return and will likely take his spot in right if he is feeling well. One player...

A Red Sox and Boston season to never forget

Around the fifth inning of game six, with the Boston Red Sox up 6-0, my friend and fellow Boston sports fan Sully made a comment concerning superstition. Mixed within Shane Victorino’s three-run triple, Stephen Drew’s long overdue big fly and David Ortiz continuing to be World Series MVP David Ortiz, I hardly remember the exact words, but his statement basically centered upon...
