For those of you too young to remember the classic 70s TV show Sanford and Son, you probably won’t get Tim Hudson’s sly reference to how he felt prior to his unavoidable back surgery three months ago.  For those of you who have seen an episode or two of the finest sitcom centered around a father/son duo and their junkyard shenanigans, peppered with some off-color racism, no doubt you’ll chuckle at Hudson’s quip when you read it.

Said Hudson, who will miss the first month of the season, about his mobility before undergoing the procedure…

“I definitely feel like I’m getting around a lot better,” Hudson said. “I felt like Fred Sanford for two or three years walking around the locker room.”

Nothing but net.  Anytime you can work a Sanford and Son reference into an answer makes you all the more quotable.  And awesome.

See, Fred was a bit on the lazy side, and would routinely make his son Lamont do all the work around their “antiques” store, claiming that his back was too messed up to help.  It was just one of the running gags on the show that made it so great, along with Fred continually referring to his son as a big dummy, getting beat with a purse by his sister-in-law Esther, and faking a heart attack when things don’t go his way.  Trust me, it’s funnier if you watch it.

Dated? Sure, but that doesn’t make it not funny.
