Found June 10, 2013 on Atlanta Bullpen:
The Washington Nationals’ Jayson Werth made headlines before the season, when he stated that the Philadelphia Phillies would be the Nationals’ biggest competition this season to win the National League East, not the Atlanta Braves.  How does that crow taste, Jayson Werth? With nearly 40% of the season complete, it appears that Werth was correct about the Phillies being the Nationals’ biggest competition this season.  Only it is for second place in the division, not first. The Braves currently hold a 7.5 game lead over the Nationals, and 8.5 game lead over the Phillies, and it has been a very forgettable season for Jasyon Werth.  The Nationals right fielder missed all but one game in May due to injury, and is hitting only .248 on the season, with minimal power or run production. In other words, Werth’s play this season has been almost as bad as his scroungy beard and greasy hair. Sure the Nationals have had many injuries this season, but so have the Braves, with Brandon Beachy, JonnyVenters, Eric O’Flaherty, Brian McCann and Jason Heyward out for all or significant parts of the season. If Washington doesn’t put it into gear, they may not even make the playoffs.  They are currently 5.5 games behind the first wildcard slot and 3.5 behind the second and final slot. Long way to go this season, but I don’t see the listless Nationals making any noise.  They look like a dead team that blew their wad last season. Key stat thus far, Washington is only 12-12 against NL East teams, while the Phillies are a solid 16-9 and the Braves are even better at  15-6.  All three have over half their remaining games this season against NL East opponents. Braves Dan Uggla: Baseball’s Sibyl

Atlanta Braves second baseman Dan Uggla can make you shake your head and slam your fist down on the table.  If it wasn’t for maturity and not wanting to injure yourself, that fist could just as easily be put through a wall, or maybe even a window. Sometimes when you see Uggla strike out on three pitches, while looking ridiculous, it makes you wonder if he is suffering from severe...

Kris Medlen does not want to go to the bullpen

Kris Medlen does not want to head to the bullpen when Brandon Beachy comes off the disabled list. Medlen is the only member of the Braves rotation who has experience in the bullpen. Many figured that the Braves would place Beachy in the rotation spot of Julio Teheran. That is far from certain with Teheran pitching better of late. “I’ll let it be known that I don’t want to go...

Braves shouldn't be so quick to trade a starting pitcher

Can a baseball team ever have enough pitching? The general wisdom says no.  Yet the Atlanta Braves may end up facing a tough decision while attempting to answer that question over the next few weeks.  Right-hander Brandon Beachy is nearly ready to return to the Braves' starting rotation, approximately a year after undergoing Tommy John surgery. In four minor-league...

Nats Keep Bats Hot In Doubleheader Sweep

The Washington Nationals (31-31) did, in fact, save some offense for the second game of their day-night double header against the Minnesota Twins (27-33) in an impressively offensive day for a team that has been struggling to score runs. After blowing out the Twins in a 7-0, 14-hit victory in Game 1, the Nationals notched 10 more hits in their 5-4 win in Game 2. By...

Magill, Dodgers trounced by Braves

Fantasy Freestyle: Fast Starts and Slow Starts by Mike Gianella

Many fantasy owners have prejudged certain players, like Adam LaRoche, as fast or slow starters, but the data on April performances paints a much cloudier picture.

Daily FanDuel Picks: June 11, 2013

Yesterday, Hisashi Iwakuma was lights-out against the Astros (no surprise there) and Jason Heyward crushed two homers (big surprise there). In total, “hectorrondon” combined for 41.75 points, but that still landed me just a 13th-place finish. I’ve heard from some of you that there was a little bit of success to be had with my lineup yesterday, so that’s great to hear. I can’t...
