The Roster Math Behind Ryan Howard’s Return

The Big Man is almost back will likely return tonight according to Todd Zolecki and he couldn’t return any sooner to this reeling Phils club. His return will be one of a pair that set the stage for the 2012 club’s last stand. With Ryan Howard‘s return, someone will have to return to Triple-A. With only 34 active and healthy players on the 40-man roster, no one will have to...

Howard will be eased back into Phillies' lineup

After his first night back in the major leagues after suffering a ruptured left Achilles tendon in last year's National League playoffs, Ryan Howard looked out at the bevy of reporters that surrounded him. He was eventually asked about how much of the load he could shoulder for a Philadelphia Phillies team on the brink of collapse. "Nothing more than this bookbag on...

Ryan Howard Likely to Return Tonight Against the Braves

Ryan Howard is making progress in his rehabilitation for an Achillies’ injury, and the star first baseman is expected to return to the Philadelphia Phillies for tonight’s game against the Atlanta Braves at Citizens Bank Park. “Excited to be back in Philly tomorrow,” Howard posted on his Twitter feed and Facebook Wall, Thursday night. Howard played back-to-back games in the...

Ryan Howard likely to return to Phillies' lineup Friday

Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard is likely to be in Philadelphia's starting lineup on Friday, general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said after Thursday's loss to the Mets. Earlier in the day Amaro had said it was possible Howard would return to the team sometime this weekend. But he upgraded that later by saying Howard is likely to be in the starting lineup Friday. He...

Ryan Howard Likely to Return to Phillies Tonight

Injured star 1st baseman, Ryan Howard will make his return to the Phillies tonight against the Braves. After a crushing walk-off loss to the New York Mets last night, it appears the Phillies are desperate. Even though he has only spent a week rehabbing in minor league baseball games, Ryan Howard is reportedly going to be activated tonight as the Phillies open a 3 game series against...

Ryan Howards return nets same result with another terrible bullpen performance

Photo Courtesy of Renee Cendrowski. The Phillies fans got their first look at Ryan Howard this 2012 disaster of a season and the results were the same, another loss. Howard had two hits in the 5-0 loss to the Braves which was a pitchers duel until the bullpen entered the game. Antonio Bastardo entered the game in the eighth to ruin a great pitching performance by Kyle Kendrick...

Phillies activate Ryan Howard from DL

The time for excuses is coming to a close. Chase Utley came off of the DL last week, and today, the Phillies have activated first baseman Ryan Howard. Howard torn his Achilles tendon last October in game five of the NLDS against the Cardinals, and played six rehab games, tallying eight hits, two doubles, one homer, three walks, and three strikeouts.  The Phillies...

Phils' ugly loss balanced by news of Howard's possible return

The Philadelphia Phillies' 2012 season sank to a new low on Thursday at Citi Field. All-Star closer Jonathan Papelbon, who had reeled off 17 straight saves to begin his Phillies career, blew his second save opportunity in his last three chances in a 6-5 loss to the Mets. The defeat put the Phils a season-high 13 games behind the Washington Nationals in the National League East...

The first baseman hasn't played with the Phils...

Ryan Howard To Make Season Debut As Phillies Open Series With Braves

(Photo: Philliedelphia/Kevin Durso) Yesterday was just pathetic. Seriously, you have to give an effort to lose like that. The Phils had the series in the bag until the 9th inning of yesterday's game that ended with a Mets walk-off win. The Phillies are looking to turn a new direction this weekend as they head into the All-Star break. They will host a three-game weekend series...

Braves-Phillies Preview

When Ryan Howard made the final out of the Philadelphia Phillies' 2011 season in Game 5 of their NL Division Series, few may have realized how much more disappointment would follow in subsequent months. The last-place Phillies hope his return can provide a spark. Howard seems likely to play for the first time this season Friday night in the opener of a three-game set with the...

Phillies’ Season Sits on the Brink

Phillies’ centerfielder Shanve Victorino. Photo Courtesy of Renee Cendrowski. The Philadelphia Phillies sit 13 games back of first place. 13. It’s an almost unfathomable number. No one said it would be easy, but no one could have predicted it would be this hard for the Phillies this season. Ryan Howard’s return was disappointing, not because of his 2 for 4 performance, but...

McCann's slam powers Braves over Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Brian McCann hit a grand slam, Tim Hudson tossed four-hit ball over seven innings and the Atlanta Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 to spoil Ryan Howard's season debut Friday night.
