Fox Sports Wisconsin:
After persuading Chicago Cubs manager Dale Sveum to hand him the ball, Scott Baker is finally ready to take a major league mound for the first time in almost two years.
Back from Tommy John surgery, the right-hander makes his Cubs debut Sunday against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers.
Baker went 63-48 with a 4.15 ERA in 163 games -- 159 starts -- for Minnesota from 2005-11, then underwent elbow surgery in April 2012. Chicago (60-81) signed him as free agent late last year.
After spending some time rehabbing at the team's facility in Arizona, Baker allowed 18 earned runs and 34 hits with 16 strikeouts and 10 walks over 29 23 innings between Class-A Kane County and Class-A Daytona.
His last major league appearance came with the Twins on Sept. 24, 2011, and most recent start Aug. 8 of the same season.
"It's been a long while since I started a major league game, and there's definitely a lot to be excited about," Baker told the Cubs' official website. "R...

The Cubs aren’t necessarily vastly improved but the club is moving in the right direction. The...

In what has been rightfully perceived a depleted system after all the trades to bring in stars like C.C. Sabathia and Zack Greinke in addition to Shaun Marcum, the Brewers have tried to replenish their system while balancing the need to field a competitive big league club. Signing pitchers like Kyle Lohse, however, in lieu of making...
You knew it was going to happen.
One day after being eliminated from the National League Central division race, the Chicago Cubs were eliminated from the National League Wild Card race as well. No, they can’t even qualify for the second wild card. It’s done. Finito. Over. Ende. Sorry. And even if they won, they might have been eliminated tonight anyway if the Cincinnati...
Johnny Hellweg's final line won't jump out to those who just glance at the box score, but the rookie right-hander took a step in the right direction Saturday afternoon at Wrigley Field.
Hellweg allowed three earned runs over a career-high six innings to earn his first major-league win in Milwaukee's 5-3 victory over the Cubs. Making his fourth career start, Hellweg allowed...
Milwaukee Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun has a long road to forgiveness ahead. After repeatedly lying about his history of performance-enhancing drug use, the 29-year-old was eventually outed as a cheater and a fraud. He threw urine collector Dino Laurenzi Jr. under the bus in the process and attacked his character. Now, Braun is trying to […]
Kyle Lohse's outing was spoiled by one pitch.
Junior Lake made Lohse pay for a hanging slider and the rookie hit his first career grand slam to lead the Chicago Cubs 8-5 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Friday.
''Just spun right there,'' Lohse said of the pitch to Lake. ''The frustrating thing is I was just one pitch away a couple times and I just...
When you’re 59-80 entering the last month of the MLB regular season, there are a lot of questions regarding the direction of your franchise. The Chicago Cubs haven’t been relevant in a very long time, so changes this off-season might be only natural for fans of the team to expect. But owner Tom Ricketts was […]
